The Eleven Commandments

Misleading thread title? Yes.

Here is the dreaded Hays movie code of 1930:

Resolved, That those things which are included in the following list shall not appear in pictures produced by the members of this Association, irrespective of the manner in which they are treated:

1) Pointed profanity – by either title or lip – this includes the words "God," "Lord," "Jesus," "Christ" (unless they be used reverently in connection with proper religious ceremonies), "hell," "damn," "Gawd," and every other profane and vulgar expression however it may be spelled;

2) Any licentious or suggestive nudity – in fact or in silhouette; and any lecherous or licentious notice thereof by other characters in the picture;

3) The illegal traffic in drugs;

4) Any inference of sex perversion;

5) White slavery;

6) Miscegenation (sex relationships between the white and black races);

7) Sex hygiene and venereal diseases;

8) Scenes of actual childbirth – in fact or in silhouette;

9) Children's sex organs;

10) Ridicule of the clergy;

11) Willful offense to any nation, race or creed;

----

I draw your attention to number 10. This explains its presence: In 1929, a Catholic layman, Martin Quigley (editor of the prominent trade paper Motion Picture Herald) and the Jesuit priest Father Daniel A. Lord created a code of standards and submitted it to the studios.

Why are religions so defensive? Is it because they know deep down in their hearts that religion is BS? Do they believe that people must be controlled and not allowed to think for themselves?

It's been over 80 years since this code was written and today's Pope is still using the same mindset.

There are shit-tons of movies about Ancient Rome where slaves show up. And back then, non-white actors were practically non-existent.
