Humanists Respond To Louisiana Flooding

August 23, 2016
by Michael Stone

Humanists are raising funds for Louisiana flood victims.

Foundation Beyond Belief is launching a drive to aid those affected by the recent catastrophic flooding in Louisiana.

The mission of Foundation Beyond Belief is to unite the humanist community in volunteer and charitable efforts, and to advocate for compassionate action throughout the world.

Earlier this week, Foundation Beyond Belief announced a Humanist Disaster Recovery Drive to raise funds for the recovery effort after the flooding in Louisiana, the worst U.S. natural disaster since Superstorm Sandy. Effects from the flooding include:

More than 40,000 homes damaged
Nearly a third of Louisiana’s parishes declared disaster areas
70,000 applications for FEMA assistance submitted
13 fatalities recorded
