Bishop Robert Finn was sentenced to two years probation for failure to report suspected child abuse.

(CNN) -- A judge in Kansas City, Missouri, has sentenced a Catholic bishop to two years on probation for failure to report suspected child abuse, officials said Thursday.

Bishop Robert W. Finn, 59, is the highest-ranking Catholic official to be convicted during the church's long sexual abuse scandal.

Finn won't serve any jail time or pay a fine, the Jackson County Prosecuting Attorney's office said. The misdemeanor charge had a maximum penalty of one year in prison and a fine of as much as $1,000.

One other misdemeanor against the bishop and two against Diocese of Kansas City-St. Joseph were dropped.

Maybe that would get his attention.
No jail time, no fine. That sends a message. Keep doing it.

He was convicted and he is the highest ranking official to be convicted, but it seems that the actual punishment is quite mild.

OTOH, maybe it will give other judges presiding over these cases the guts to act more decisively. We shall see.

Anything less is a cop-out. Jail the freaking Bishop. Make an example of him. Maybe that would convince the rest of them to knock it off and turn in pedophile priests.

I'm sick of it.

We shouldn't just make a Bishop like this one just say a good act of contrition and a few rounds of the Rosary. They need prison time if we're going to get this important message across.

Catholic church,Penn State, now Jehovah's Witnesses hit with $28 million sex abuse settlement Oakland,Calif.-Google it.

Many court documents and news events prove that Jehovah Witnesses require two witnesses when a child comes forward with allegations of molestation within the congregation.
It has also been shown that child molesters within the organization usually have not been identified to the congregation members or the public at large.
These people engage in a door to door ministry, possibly exposing children to pedophiles.
The Watchtower corporation has paid out millions in settlement money already.
