Anyone heard from rug?

He hasn't posted since February 13, and I'm wondering if something's happened to him? He's not one to just walk away from DU - too grumpy and cantankerous to give up the fight that easily.

There's no love lost between rug and I, but I wouldn't want something bad to happen to him. Anyone seen or heard from him?

Hopefully, it's just a vacation, or something good in his offline life taking up his time.

Or maybe he's actually a cardinal, and has had to go to Rome for the election ...

No matter one's take on all of this, it IS history. Big history. Maybe he wanted to witness it first hand.

I could see a keen Catholic planning be there for when the election will be decided, and maybe even for Benedict's last Sunday. But it seems unlikely he'd have gone that early. And I can't see him giving up posting on DU while he's there.

Actually, I've just realised a very believable scenario: the last day he posted was Ash Wednesday. He may well have given up DU for Lent.

He defended the pope and the church in the first couple of threads as the news broke, pushing back mostly agisnt the speculation that the pope was involved in protecting child-rapers. But when the cardinal sex-scandal in the vatican story broke, as well as more evidence that the pope was eyeball deep in protecting child-rapists, he disappeared.

After all the defending of the church and the pope he did over the years, only to find that he was wrong the entire time, maybe he is too embarrassed to try and respond to anything. He may know that his credibility is at zero.

But who knows? Could be anything. Giving up DU for lent? Quite plausible.

seems like as the RCC scandal worsened, he became rather scarce. I too agree with little he has to say, but hope he's alright.

Maybe I'm just grabbing at straws. I miss him and hope he is ok.
