Related: About this forumAnyone heard from rug?
He hasn't posted since February 13, and I'm wondering if something's happened to him? He's not one to just walk away from DU - too grumpy and cantankerous to give up the fight that easily.
There's no love lost between rug and I, but I wouldn't want something bad to happen to him. Anyone seen or heard from him?

(101,271 posts)Hopefully, it's just a vacation, or something good in his offline life taking up his time.
Or maybe he's actually a cardinal, and has had to go to Rome for the election ...

(19,705 posts)No matter one's take on all of this, it IS history. Big history. Maybe he wanted to witness it first hand.

(101,271 posts)I could see a keen Catholic planning be there for when the election will be decided, and maybe even for Benedict's last Sunday. But it seems unlikely he'd have gone that early. And I can't see him giving up posting on DU while he's there.
Actually, I've just realised a very believable scenario: the last day he posted was Ash Wednesday. He may well have given up DU for Lent.

(19,705 posts)He defended the pope and the church in the first couple of threads as the news broke, pushing back mostly agisnt the speculation that the pope was involved in protecting child-rapers. But when the cardinal sex-scandal in the vatican story broke, as well as more evidence that the pope was eyeball deep in protecting child-rapists, he disappeared.
After all the defending of the church and the pope he did over the years, only to find that he was wrong the entire time, maybe he is too embarrassed to try and respond to anything. He may know that his credibility is at zero.
But who knows? Could be anything. Giving up DU for lent? Quite plausible.

(7,616 posts)seems like as the RCC scandal worsened, he became rather scarce. I too agree with little he has to say, but hope he's alright.

(146,218 posts)Seriously. I think that is what happened.
We won't know for sure until March 30.

(146,218 posts)He enjoys DU and it makes sense to me that he might forgo it during lent.

(11,573 posts)in the Catholic and Orthodox group, at least, if he were giving DU or the net for Lent. He's the host there.
cbayer
(146,218 posts)I don't think there are a lot of host issues in that group, but I think you are right. He's a responsible guy and it seems he would have said something.
Now I'm worried.

(146,218 posts)I give up DU when I go on a road trip - up to two months at a time.
I still use the internet but I just don't even sign onto DU.
Maybe I'm just grabbing at straws. I miss him and hope he is ok.
if it's something he gets a lot of enjoyment out of it could be "given up for lent"
cleanhippie
(19,705 posts)and you are reading this now, that's cheating! Lurking is still "being on" DU.
