Workers' Center sorry for anti-semitic image

The Vermont Workers' Center, upset by Gov. Peter Shumlin's decision to sideline efforts for a single-payer health insurance plan, offered an apology on Friday for an unflattering depiction of the chief executive during a rally.

"We would like to offer our deepest apologies for the use of certain imagery at the Statehouse action ...," the post on the Workers' Center website said about the Thursday rally.

"The cardboard cut-out of the Governor was meant as a reference to the story Pinocchio in which the nose extended with each hypocritical statement Shumlin made during the Wednesday Dec. 17th press conference," the statement read.

"We realize now this image comes off as reminiscent of anti-semitic propaganda. The Vermont Workers' Center stands against anti-semitism and all forms of oppression and discrimination. We apologize for the use of this image," it ended.
