Mound near lunar south pole formed by unique volcanic process

Within a giant impact basin near the moon's south pole, there sits a large mound of mysterious origin. Research by geologists suggests that the mound was formed by unique volcanic processes set in motion by the impact that formed the basin.

About a decade or so ago a geologist said the the Esopus Creek in the Catskills was a meteor impact site and then showed that the higher elevation in the center was caused by welling up of material after the impact. He then went on to say that most impact sites will have that characteristic mound in the center.
