Experts restore sphinxes in legendary Egypt's Karnak complex
Cairo, May 12 (Prensa Latina) Experts are restoring emblematic sphinxes of Amun-Ra temple in the legendary Karnak complex, the largest of its kind in Egypt built by multiple pharaohs from the 2,200 to 360 B.C. years.
'Such a project includes the renovation of 29 statues within the temple,' advanced the Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities Mostafa Waziri in statements to Egypt Today daily.
These works were wrongly renovated last century, said the specialist, explaining that once the current work has been completed, they will be placed on stone bases whose platform will be treated to resist the onslaught of time and the passage of underground water currents.
Amun-Ra, dedicated to the god Amun, is the largest of the Karnak complex temples and the only one open to the public.
