Eggland's Holiest

I just had to drive behind a big truck with the entire back emblazoned with Christ on the cross and a paragraph or two from the Gospel of John. The truck was transporting Eggland eggs....as the logo on the side informed me.

I find it obnoxious and bad business to use the very visible, with a sorta captive audience (driving behind the truck), shoving their religion down my throat rather than advertising their product. It's that inserting religion into everything that irks me. Are they selling eggs or Christ? I don't mind bill boards for Jesus or churches advertising, but this trumpeting that you are a "christian company"... like that is some kind of asset.... you see much more than ever I don't get. Will I be looked down on by Eggland for being an atheist or, even, a Jew or Hindu. It seems like bad business, smug and somehow divisive to me.

I know this is just eggs, but what if your optometrist, say, had a jesus fish on his business card. (I went to one that did....once) Do you really want a doctor that wears his beliefs in Bronze Age superstitions on his sleeve to operate on your eyes?

To everything there is a season and a time to every purpose under heaven, y'know. Sometimes, a 10 foot crucifix is not in the "season". It's just tacky!

Anyway..... just needed to complain.... not about religion putting itself out there, but loudly pushing into every little thing, like eggs and trucking. Meanwhile, mild mannered Richard Dawkins is a rabid radical screaming atheist! Uh huh......

Be sure to get Eggland's best! They taste more holy!

Also, it's hard to know how far up the Eggland ladder this goes. Is the company run by extreme Xtians, or was this just one bad egg? ... And who has time to crack the case, anyway ...

website or pictures of their packaging, so it might have been the driver that stuck it on there.

Usually when a company goes Full Metal Jesus they stick it on everything they can get their hands on.

Yeah you'll see the little fish symbol tucked away on their website or logo. Looks more like one rogue contracted driver or something. I heard Eggland's Best wasn't all that organic/free-range to being with, more of a scam. I buy local cage-free.

The entire back of the truck had a silkscreened photo of a statue of a crucifix...with the sun behind it, and the Bible quotes in block out type. It was professionally done.

But I see what you mean, It may be the trucking company, tho' the Eggland logos were also painted onto the truck. Eggland has to know the trucking company is uber-Christian.

I am a teacher in Wisconsin. When all the union busting went down several years ago, one of the local ice cream shop owners said in a newspaper interview that teachers were a leach on society. I haven't eaten there since. Many openly called for a boycott by teachers, which caused some RWers to say that we weren't letting him have his freedom of speech. He can have his freedom of speech but that doesn't mean I have to give him another penny for it.

This just seems like privilege to me. This buffoon thinks everyone just agrees with him.

Funny that you bring this up. My mother has MS and I end up taking her all over the state of Texas to see doctors. While she is not an atheist (more like a lapsed catholic/Deist) we have been preached to by at least 3 to 4 of them. One of which sat us down, and began to lecture us on "the need to accept Jesus Christ as your lord and savior."

Those who happen to not be fundamentalist....are usually corporate republicans who preach to us about the evils of Obamacare.

I wish we lived somewhere a bit more sane than Texas...

My wife had made an appointment to see a new ob/gyn but when she arrived at his office the whole lobby was littered with horrible anti-gay tracts -- and they weren't just left there by another patient. According to her, the displays and "fire and brimstone" religious items made it quite obvious that the items were those of the doctor himself. So my wife told the receptionist she didn't feel comfortable keeping her appointment to which the nurse/receptionist simply said, "I understand." I really resent the fact that my wife had to put up with that kind of public embarrassment and stress for no other reason than she needed to see a doctor.

Of all people, would be the most sensitive to making sure that their patients feel welcome and comfortable.

Religion really does have a way of warping people

I hope your wife was able to find a good replacement physician. And nobody should have to endure what you and your wife did for any reason.

The doctor she has now is also anti-gay but at least she keeps her mouth shut. Still, the doctor makes her disapproval known in ways that make my wife feel very uncomfortable. In the meanwhile, we have found a new doctor who is very welcoming, has met both of us and is now my physician. My wife will be transferring to her soon.

On the whole, I've found nurses to be much more compassionate and caring towards the LGBT community. Around these parts a lot of the doctors are RW Republicans. Go figure. Many of them seem to be obsessed with paying taxes.
