Indian miracle-buster fears returning home

Even skeptics who challenge myths can be persecuted. It's a good article.

--
When a Hindu fakir declared on live television that he could kill anybody with tantric chanting, Sanal Edamaruku simply had to take him up on the challenge.
--
He has spent his life as a prominent member of India's small band of miracle-busters, men who dedicate their life to traversing the country demystifying certain beliefs.
--
But in 2012, four years after his televised encounter with the fakir, a steady drip of water from the toe of a statue of Christ genuinely did, he believes, put his life in danger.
--

Facts.. the enemy of those who believe. I have read about this man for a few years and he is one of those who stand up to religious fakery in India.

the Catholic church, India, and every other country with blasphemy laws on their books, should be deeply ashamed.

I agree his life is in danger if he returns. But by not returning, the charlatans win as well.

People simply don't take kindly to having their precious beliefs questioned, let alone proven false.

'Ah, thank you, Edamaruku, for showing us the true nature of this thing we mistook for a miracle.'

Nope. Probably not.

You think they would encourage people to try and prove them wrong.

But that is the rub, isn't it. Their faith isn't that strong, its made of glass and they have to protect it from facts at any cost. Blasphemer must be silenced because their all powerful deity is helpless before a mere mortal.
