Related: About this forumQ about content of the Bible
If we delete
* everything not verified by other literary sources or historical/archaeological/geological evidence
* every law/counsel that is considered illegal behavior nowadays (e.g. selling your own children into slavery)
* every law/counsel that is considered immoral behavior nowadays (e.g. marry your rapist)
* every law/counsel that is considered outdated or inconvenient nowadays (Garfunkel&Oats found a nice loophole)
what would be left of the Bible?

(3,622 posts)or any religion's holy book the contents are just opinion. If someone wants to believe in the literal interpretation or cherry pick what they want to believe that is their choice but it always comes down to just being an opinion that is not worth much (in my opinion).
It is fine to debate the issues to try to open someone's eyes on the matter but if they want to continue to be "blind" on the facts there is not much one can do about it. One of the key elements of religion is to make sure the "believers" exhibit cognitive dissonance.

(13,029 posts)But those contents have also been heavily cherry-picked to create the Bible as we know it today in the first place. There are many other books (alternative Gospels, for examples) that could have gone into the Bible, but didn't.

(3,622 posts)the holy books are just opinion and in my opinion, not worthy of consideration. The christian bible is a horrible book but that is just my opinion and others might disagree. I just hope they don't disagree to the point of violence towards me but I can never discount how people are going to act out their religious beliefs.
