We get mentioned on the ID Channel...

Well, the agnostics among us, anyway.

ID Channel is currently running the second season of "A Crime To Remember." A pretty good show that covers (in)famous crimes in fairly recent history.

The season opener was the Kitty Genovese murder in 1964. Which, as everybody knows, involved the brutal stabbing of a woman while 37 of her neighbors watched and did nothing.

Which is not even remotely what happened. And the story everybody knows, it turns out, was basically cooked up by the NY TIMES and the city Police Commissioner. Partly to distract from some other crimes going on at the time.

One of Genovese's neighbors went to help her immediately, not knowing if the killer was still present. That neighbor was a tiny 4'11" woman whose son was a little kid at the time. And he remembers that night vividly.

Another neighbor who heard her screams but didn't call the police was a gay man. NY, 1964, and gay people had good reason not to call the police.

Genovese herself was a lesbian and a fairly devout Catholic, who was living with Mary Ann Zielonko - an agnostic woman.

Pretty good show and I learned something, always a good thing.

TRIGGER WARNING FOR SPIES - this link shows two women kissing. You Have Been Warned...
