Philip Kitcher: ‘New Atheism’ hasn’t supplied anything to replace religion

America's favorite Faitheist heaps more scorn on the "New Atheists" (though certainly less than normal for him) with an interview of Philip Kitcher.

http://chrisstedman.religionnews.com/2014/12/01/philip-kitcher-new-atheism/

The main critique is a familiar refrain: what will the "New Atheists" replace religion with? My favorite response is in the comments, from "George Waite":

Religion is boring; finding a replacement for it is like getting rid of your hemorrhoids and worrying about what you’re going to do with all those special seat cushions now.
It’s a waste of time, money and trouble.

I had the same thoughts, but could not have put it into words nearly as well as he did. WTF......do all religionists think that the world would come to an end if there were no religions? I feel sorry for them, thinking that life is pointless without a god to worship and take direction from. And fear of Hell and spending all their life waiting for Heaven.

I vote we go in the direction of two interesting Vietnamese sects, the Cao Dai and the Hoa Hao.

Cao Dai had a mind-blowing psychedelic "Vatican" in Tay Ninh, staffed by female Cardinals and featuring statues of Saint Victor Hugo and Saint Mark Twain.

Both sects had their own armies. You wanna see "militant atheists," we'll show you militant atheists...

We could replace it with what "Old Atheism" wanted to replace it with:

Reason.

I thought SOMA was a company that made bras.

Replacing religion with bras might work, y'know....

Cyanide capsule? Bomb? Vial full of hydrochloric acid?

Yanno, just make sure you put something eventually lethal back in the hole the tumor used to occupy.
