Dan Ahlers, former Democratic legislator from Dell Rapids, announces his candidacy for U.S. Senate
Dan Ahlers, a former Democratic legislator from Dell Rapids, is seeking to represent South Dakota in the U.S. Senate.
Ahlers, 45, plans to formally announce his candidacy on Monday in Dell Rapids.
"Washington has been taken over by partisan politics. Politicians are more concerned with the next election (than) getting the work of the people done. South Dakota deserves representation that will listen and find solutions for today's challenges," Ahlers said in a statement.
U.S. Sen. Mike Rounds hasn't yet announced whether he'll seek re-election next year, but he has held several fundraisers in recent months. State Rep. Scyller Borglum, R-Rapid City, is challenging Rounds to be the Republican Senate candidate on the ballot next November.
