BREAKING NEWS: My Opponent Was “Very Abusive” to His Ex-Wife

Last edited Wed Sep 19, 2012, 06:56 PM - Edit history (1)

The local CBS affiliate in Orlando, WKMG, has reported that my opponent, Todd Long, was “very abusive” to his ex-wife.

Given Long’s history of severe alcoholism, this should surprise no one. Long passed out drunk outside a schoolyard, 200 miles from home. He was convicted of driving under the influence. He is barred for life from the Mall at Millenia in Orlando, for being drunk and disorderly.

And he is the Republican nominee against me. Wow, the Republicans sure know how to pick them, don’t they?

The local news report on Long’s abusive misconduct comes out of sworn testimony. In open court, Long’s wife, Ninette, said it directly to Long’s face: “You were very abusive and manipulative.” Long testified right after Ninette, and he didn’t even endeavor to contradict her testimony.

Todd Long has taken the Republicans’ war on women to its logical conclusion. With Long, it’s not a metaphor. It’s the real thing.

I could give you a hundred reasons why Long must be beaten. He wants to prohibit the teaching of evolution in the schools (possibly because he himself shares so much with the apes). He wants to ban abortion even the case of rape and incest, and when the mother’s life is in danger. He wants to drill and spill and frack offshore, on the beaches, in the Grand Canyon, in Mt. Rushmore, and in your backyard – abusing Mother Nature.

Let me tell you this: We have to defeat this miscreant. Whatever it takes. We have to win.

Courage,

Alan Grayson

Comparing your opponent to an ape. The truth is that we homo sapiens all share much in common with our primate cousins. Some biologists even want to reclassify chimpanzees and bonobo chimpanzees as homo sapiens, because we share 98+% DNA. Just because your opponent is an abusive asshat is no reason to insult our primate cousins.

If I lived in FL, I'd vote for you.

Dear Alan Grayson, While I have ALWAYS been a fan, and while I was disappointed to see you lose in the last election and THRILLED that you were not going to give up serving this country in Congress, and I am not a fan of ANY kind of abuse.......... I will say that I am a little disappointed that you have stooped to the level of the rethuglicans. Pls don't go there!!!!!!You don't need to. Let the local news-rag affiliates jump on this band wagon. You would do better to just comment if asked,......."Obviously this is something private and personal with regards to my opponent,.........I will let the voters decide this for themselves, ya da, ya da, ya da,...............And pls don't be foolish enough to create a commercial about this. Tell your campaign advisers to remove any links to this from your site........... Take the high road sir........You always did before..............

While normally it's best to allow people to handle their own lives separately from their political lives (regardless of whether that happens), the Republicans are at a stage where their character has a direct impact on their policies. The war on women is a very clear example of that, and getting politicians that are abusive to their wives out is becoming more and more important. The separation between public and private lives is no longer there.

Mr. Grayson, sir, America needs your ass back in congress!

and would have set an example for those who still think the disease is something to laugh at.
Alan's opponent should be encouraged to seek help.

In truth, the practicing alcoholic is not capable of good judgment, and certainly not able to handle much stress, which is a disqualifier for any office.

When campaigning, the objective is to tell the voters why you would be a the better choice. This information is very pertinent to the voters, and needs mega attention drawn to it. Who better than the candidate running against this low life? You'd prefer that this type of person got elected? They shouldn't let creeps like this even run for office, and if they are brazen enough to run, then you better believe their opponents have every right, reason and duty to inform the voters.

I also find it quite interesting that when I looked at your transparency page, that even though you have been a member since March of this year, you have recommended no threads and rarely post, but found it very important to "chime in" with your verbal recommendation/advise on this one.

He had the much better answer on Iran, but his wife beating comment was way out of line. There's no evidence of that.

It's common in divorces for the wife to accuse the husband of abuse, even when it didn't happen. Not everyone's objective in divorces, and that's what lawyers frequently advise. Divorces can get messy that way.

I worked with someone that was accused of beating his kids in his divorce proceedings. He had no kids. He frequently mentioned that to us. His wife's lawyer was at fault.
