(2,208 posts)He still hasn't completely destroyed Ryan's reputation.
This has to go on a bit longer so that lyin' piece of crap loses whatever "credibility" people seem to think he has, and becomes so poisonous that he can never get elected to anything ever again.
And, as others have pointed out - coattails.

(105 posts)I've been interested in US politics for over 40 years, and have just discovered this fine forum ! I've thoroughly enjoyed the headlines over the past few days, wonderful payback for that grotesque spectacle of the GOP TV debate which was widely reported over here.
My jaw virtually dropped to the floor when I saw Ron Paul et al and that braying audience competing to see who could be most vile towards their own fellow countrymen. A sickening spectacle indeed. Our ruling Conservative / Liberal Democrat coalition government (or as many call them "the ConDem(n)s" are conducting their own twisted social experiment on the British electorate at the moment - attacking those on welfare, introducing "Zero Hour"** contracts for nurses and other health workers, advocating vouchers and coupons for education, healthcare and so on (just what is it with the right-wing obsession with coupons???).
**Zero Hour contracts - having to telephone in to your place of work each day and see if you are required for work that day (the hourage can vary day to day too) - how is anyone expected to feel confident building a career under those conditions?
We have our own weird and wonderful selection of political characters over here too - for example, our Chancellor of the Exchequer, George Osborne, has never held down a proper job before he took over the reins of the country's finances, is heir to a fortune from his dad's posh wallpaper empire, and was once photographed with a dominatrix with lines of coke on a nearby table - the cartoonist in our last remaining leftish newspaper regularly portrays him in full bondage gear complete with nipple rings !
I've always thought Obama to be a sincere, studious and gracious man - even though I haven't agreed with everything he's done, no party could turn round the mess left in 2008 in one term.
I wish your party well - keep fighting !

(41,205 posts)I'm another Brit with a long-term interest in America and American politics, and joined DU in 2004, when Blair 'n Bush were going strong.
I agree about Osborne, and then there are such people as Gove the Education Secretary, who looks like a fool, talks like a fool and by golly he IS a fool. And Lansley the disgusting ex-Health Secretary whose main ambition was to sell off the NHS to the highest bidders, oops I mean to reform it. We thought there could be no one worse. Then Jeremy Hunt replaced him and proved us wrong. Then there's Iain Duncan-Smith the welfare-cutter who once co-authored an article with Rick Santorum; Nick Clegg the human weathercock; and ruling them all, or rather lazily leaving them to their own devices as he struts around looking important, the arch-twit David Cameron.
But even that lot seem almost sane compared with Romney 'n Ryan!
