Like you said (and I've made my mantra for several elections now) fight like we're down 10. It's easier to extend a lead than come from behind.

Even so, extra vigilance never hurt a soul. It worked in '08 and it probably will again this year.

The LAST thing we need is complacency. Don't underestimate the GOP. They will do anything - I mean anything - to win.

And while there would probably be a result comparable to 2008 if the election were held tomorrow based on these polls, it ISN'T tomorrow.

Unfortunately there are 6 weeks to go so it's still uncertain what the final numbers will be.

This is actually a great question and worth really digging into.

1) Other countries are less materialistic and less narcissistic.
2) In other countries, if you lose your job you still have health care.
3) In other countries, you don't come out of college a debt slave for at least 20 years, if not life.
4) In other countries, your children still go to school even if you lose your job.
5) In other countries, there is more community continuity and to borrow a term from the transition movement, resilience.
6) Outside of China, almost all other (developed -- but I really hate that word) countries are more human and humane than the USA.

Just as long as it's not too close to steal, that's all that matters to me. If it's close, this election is going to be litigated to death IMHO as Republicans try to find SOME way to ensure that Romney/Ryan are installed in the WH.

It is going to take something catastrophic for BO to not reelect.

I want the margin to be close to 08 to keep the meme from him not having a strong enough reelect, and also get at least a 50/50 split in the senate. I think the House is a reach, but reelecting BO and keeping the Senate is the bare minimum I want to see.

I with the election was two weeks from now, it would probably be a pretty good day.

But, still a lot of time for things to swing back.

I think short of something catastrophic, President Obama is in good shape.

The only question is the margin for him, holding the senate and making a big dent in the house.

I'm absolutely giddy at the prospect of Obama's second term and having a democratic majority in the Senate and House.

I don't see too much room for improvement, simply given the polarized electorate and relatively weak economy. It is possible though that Obama may end up running up his popular vote margins in states that are already safe or strong (though I think Obama will win both the popular vote and electoral college by significantly larger margins than Bush in '04). And it's also possible that some swing states may go to him by higher margins than '08 (VA and OH strike me as two strong possibilities).

Otherwise, I don't see anything in particular that will move the needle in say IN, NC, or MO. And I'd love to be proven wrong, but I don't see him winning any more than 52% of the vote. There's a lot of people out there that simply hate him. And most of it is simply irrational.

The GOP has self destructed on a daily basis for the past 4 months. It has to be embarrassing for them. I still predict states going Dem that haven't gone Dem in decades. Its time to get the ball rolling FORWARD!!!
