2016 Postmortem

The top two Republicans are climate deniers. If either is elected, they will undo whatever good Obama has done and refuse to ratify the Paris agreement. Other countries will use this as an excuse for their own inaction.
Both Hillary and Bernie have detailed plans with good stuff in them, though Bernie's is more comprehensive and ambitious. Reading both plans, it's clear he gets how urgent it is. But Hillary is at least on board and could maybe be convinced to take stronger action.
With either Republican, we will only go backwards.
I honestly think this is our last chance for action. While i appreciate that people have very strong opinions about the candidates, sitting out the election is a vote in favor of irreversible climate change.

(1,236 posts)It's also important to me. But anything who sits out the election to prove a point is effectively saying they don't care about climate change. If a climate-denier takes the white house, we are done for. The window we have to do anything to is closing fast - if not already closed.

as would happen with Hillary Clinton and there will be another economic meltdown and serious social unrest.
Maybe Hillary supporters who are driven by climate change should realize that Bernie is stronger on that issue (and virtually every other progressive issue) and a stronger general election candidate than Hillary. Self described independent voters in Michigan voted 71-28 for Bernie yesterday.
