2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumGreat win for Bernie last night, but it doesn't help him much
Even though he pulled an impressive upset win in Michigan, he fell further behind in delegates. With all the states awarding delegates proportionately, close wins like last night don't do much to cut into Hillary's lead. Bernie needs a bunch of blowout wins and that doesn't look too likely at this point. Hillary's lead is almost a bridge too far.

(16,850 posts)The same crew that were crowing about a HRC a beat down of Sanders in MI, were quick to take up the "well...yeah...but the delegates" meme right after MI was called. Sanders may not win the nomination, but the party ignores his supporters and their concerns at their peril!

(18,115 posts)It will sting more as HIllary is fast running out of Southern states.

(5,295 posts)I find it very entertaining. Makes for a very interesting primary season. Bernie is helping to make Hillary a much better candidate going into the general just as she made Obama a much better candidate last time around. I just don't think the outcome has changed even though he's been stronger than most of us anticipated. Good for him and good for our country.

Hope that helps.

(6,960 posts)... of winning the nomination by hook-or-crook, by any means necessary, by demanding super delegate loyalty, etc. ...
... and you'll have a nomination that is worthless.
If the Clinton/DNC machine keeps up with this arrogant attitude towards Sanders supporters, regular grassroots Democrats, and Democratic-leaning unaffiliateds --- then the split in the Democratic Party will make the one occurring in the Repuglican Party look like just small a crack in the sidewalk.
The Hillary campaign is treading into dangerous territory if they think they can bully their way to the nomination.

(2,074 posts)is bullying, or getting the nomination "by hook or by crook"?! You do know she's ahead in PLEDGED delegates by about 217? For a point of comparison, Obama won last time with 108 delegates. Even if she and Bernie split the rest of the delegates halfway from here on, she will still win.
It's certainly possible that Bernie could catch up and surpass her (although not very likely), but her winning the primaries by winning delegates, is not bullying, it's democracy.

(1,732 posts)He proved he could win a pivotal battleground state, with a diverse demographic, giving him significant momentum moving forward into the rest of the country. To use a basketball analogy, Hillary is running out of layups and will now have to start shooting 3s with a hand in her face from here on out. Bernie will now be the one attacking the basket while Hillary plays matador defense.

(50,237 posts)of being the nominee. If superdelegates don't flip their votes they'll destroy the party if they overturn the will of the voters. Hillary has done really well in the southern states - the ones Democrats won't win anyway in the general - but it appears she might have a little competition in the Midwest and west. It's not an easy thing to do, but it can be done.

(6,007 posts)It's called momentum. . . look it up. If you look at that ABC poll, Hillary's support has been falling for months and Bernie's has been rising. Bernie has won 9 out of the last 10 in non-Southern states.
