New poll: most Bernie Sanders supporters will vote for Hillary Clinton if shes the nominee
http://www.dailynewsbin.com/news/new-poll-says-86-of-bernie-sanders-supporters-will-vote-for-hillary-clinton-if-shes-the-nominee/24192/
By Bill Palmer | March 20, 2016
......................Now that Hillary Clinton is firmly on track to be the 2016 democratic nominee, as her opponent Bernie Sanders has fallen millions of votes behind, its fair to ask how many or few Bernie fans will vote for Hillary in the general election. In headlines that were likely intended to scare people, various news outlets have pointed to data this month that says one-third of Bernies supporters will refuse to vote for Hillary Clinton. But when you do the actual math on this, its great news for Hillary.
Thus far in popular voting, Bernie Sanders has received about 41% of the total vote (source: RealClearPolitics). Of that 41%, just one-third of them say theyll refuse to vote for Hillary if shes the nominee. That means just 13.7% of all the people voting in the democratic primary are planning to shun Hillary in the general election. The other 86.3% of the combined Hillary-Bernie base will vote for her. Throw in the democrats who didnt vote in this primary because they dont have a preference and simply plan to vote for the democratic nominee no matter what, and the actual number is likely higher than 86%.....................
AND HAPPY FIRST DAY OF SPRING TO ALL......

(980 posts)This is not new. These guys are here celebrating "only" 13.7%. Al Gore lost about 12% of democrats in Florida and it cost us the election.

(11,573 posts)who never lost their senses. They're Democrats whose priority is putting the best candidate we have on the ticket and then into the Oval Office.
No sane person wants to see the country fall to Trump, who clearly sees himself as a dictator answerable to no one.

Just curious.

(751 posts)Only diehards vote in the primaries. As you know ~50% of the general population does not vote. Only 1/3 vote in primaries. So if this poll is to be believed Hillary will start with (keeping everything else constant) 2M less voters than Obama in 2012.
Now there is case to made maybe some of these 13% are people who don't usually vote or vote for Democratic candidate. No one knows that. But given Clinton unfavorablity this will be very low turnout election. I doubt people who usually don't vote will come out to vote for Hillary and what she represents. So losing people who vote in primaries is a huge lose.

(29,798 posts)Bernie can turn out a lot of independents in the GE.
I think it's simple. He makes a lot of us want to be a better person and we've been waiting for someone to ask that of us. Being appealed to with FUD is wearing thin...

(13,417 posts)I will gladly support the Dem nominee in November but many around here would rather throw their votes away on another candidate instead of the Dem nominee.
Andy823
(11,495 posts)Many of those here on DU who make that claim are NOT going to voter for a Democrat anyway. They are here to make trouble, spew right wing talking points, encourage as many here as possible to NOT vote if Bernie doesn't win, and to just plain stir shit as much as they can to divide the board.
I think there may be some Democrats that bought into the right wing BS who might not vote for Hillary, but I think it's a lot less than than 13%. Anyone in their right mind would know that not getting out and voting in November helps only the republican nominee, most likely Trump, and no sane person would ever want to see that jerk in the WH.

(23,671 posts)....or they really believe Sanders is the last hope to salvage our political system, and see Hillary as a bad choice that only perpetuates the corporate takeover of our country.
They are just as likely to be telling the truth as to have the nefarious intent you want to ascribe

HRV is going to have to work hard to reduce that number even while she moves to the center.
She can't count on the anti-trump vote because he is already moving to the center.

(81,856 posts)And most of that 13.7% wouldn't normally vote for a Democrat anyway.
That's 13.7% of all democratic voters. Both voters for Clinton and Sanders. Gore lost Florida because about 12% of democrats didn't vote for him.
HooptieWagon
(17,064 posts)IMO it may be higher, since a large number of Indy voters for Sanders simply will not vote for Clinton. Regardless, since RW Dems are still blaming the 1% Dems who voted for Nader 16 years ago for costing Gore the election, 13.7% or more is a number to be very concerned about. It's the difference between Obama numbers and Kerry numbers.

I tried posting it at the started time (5:22) but it won't let me. Just go there.

the TOTAL SHAFTING of Bernie by the DNC and the Corporatist MSM! Again as othrs here have stated... THIS ain't over yet and likely as not the progressive WEST will come out in force to SLAP the perpetrators of this ESTABLISHMENT CONTROLLED Democratic Party and its apparatchiks and apparatus. Lil Debbie deserves a good comeuppance as well. In the end Hillary voters may have to support Bernie. When EVERYONE has had the opportunity to cast their vote and have THEIR voices heard... then and ONLY then will the primary conclude.

(30,247 posts)35% of Sanders' supporters will not sit out an election that could make Trump president.
You can rail at the DNC and Wasserman all you like, but the fact remains that more people are voting for Hillary than Sanders.
BTW, I expect Sanders to stay until the last state has voted. It still won't make much of a difference in the final result.

Here's a question, though. What about all the Hillary supporters? Will they commit to voting for Bernie if he is the nominee?

(30,247 posts)if he won the nomination. It's a group of spiteful Sanders' supporters who keep saying that they refuse to vote for Hillary if she's the nominee. People like that make me sick, not because of Hillary, but because they are so selfish that they will rather see Trump as president than vote for Hillary. In all my years, I have yet to see someone who is more unqualified than Trump to govern. He would be a veritable disaster for the nation. I would vote for anyone with a "D" after their name to prevent a Trump presidency.
