2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumI just watched Bernie Sanders on CNN and he didn't smile once!

Or if he did it was once in the first few minutes, before I started keeping a record. And he sure was louder than Hillary!!!!
Explanation. Most people seem not to get the point. I was alluding to the criticisms of HRC (Joe Scarborough being the latest) of not smiling enough and yelling. Whether we are Sanders or Clinton supporters we should abhor that kind of double standard. Right?

(11,417 posts)He is not winning and he knows it. It is most likely frustration. He's probably talked to more people at his rallies than have voted for him.
As is in the past young people don't vote so much.
He is not leading any kind of revolution. I kind of feel sorry for him. He really doesn't need the aggravation at his age.

(11,366 posts)He's, what? Six years older than her, but looks far younger even without dyed hair and stage makeup.
I've seen him up close. I hope my skin looks that wrinkle-free and pink at 74!! Trust me, the health of the skin oftentimes reflects the internal health of the individual. Wrinkles can be hereditary, of course, but the pink in his skin lets me know his overall health is fantastic!

(11,366 posts)I get that if I don't watch my carbs. I'm pre-diabetic, but the doctors tell me to treat it as though I fully diabetic, so when I start gaining there, I cut my carbs to below 25 a day until I lose some weight.
Which reminds me. I need to find something for lunch. I had two salads yesterday, so I want something else today.

For the inevitable jurors, once the alerting Hillary supporter wakes from their fainting:
The Terms of Service clearly state "But that does not mean that DU members are required to always be completely supportive of Democrats. During the ups-and-downs of politics and policy-making, it is perfectly normal to have mixed feelings about the Democratic officials we worked hard to help elect."

Hillary will be President. We will win back the Senate and she will nominate liberals for the Supreme Court.
Hopefully we get more seats in the House. Maybe even take that back.

(8,133 posts)When giving a speech or being interviewed when being watched by a large crowd. As someone who used to give speeches - I had a hard time being warm and smiling. Unless you are a natural speaker or very experienced it's tough. Trump and Cruz are never seen smiling either. Kasich who used to be zen and smiled and laughed a lot is now being angry lately.
Bernie does appear to be a bit more angry and frustrated lately. I remember him smiling and laughing a bit more in the beginning. It's been a long, tough race. I do/have agreed with his message and ideas but feel Hillary is more prepared and is more electable (I'm sorry - but I'm also part of the demographic who wants to see a woman President). We have not seen the Repiublicans get a hold of Bernie yet - he has had a very easy ride so far IMO.
I hate to say that the great respect and enthusiasm I used to have for him as a maverick has gone down a bit. Just a result of me seeing him now as a politician instead of a rabble-rouser. I did like the old outsider Bernie much better.

(12,754 posts)has the phony smile down pat. We see a lot of it. I prefer to listen to a candidate's words and not be led astray by their facial expressions. Mrs. Clinton's words backing the Israel terror state were chilling -- no matter how many times we saw the pasted-on grin.

(13,749 posts)I guess people are replying without reading. It's actually been a fascinating sociological peek into the minds of people. For one thing, most people on DU who are responders (less than a 10th of viewers, as far as I can tell) don't even know that Hillary has been attacked in this way. Probably don't realize that WOMEN are attacked in this way all the time.
Thanks for your comment.

(13,749 posts)They reveal a couple of things.
1 - Many (most?) people (Bernie supporters?) don't read anything but the title. Last night I put in an explanation of the post and I'm still getting responses as if I were criticizing Bernie. I'm not. Just defending Hillary's and all women's right to not smile. Knee jerk responses without listening aren't good for democracy.
2 - Many (most?) people (Bernie supporters?) aren't even aware of the criticism Hillary faces for her demeanor that men NEVER face. No matter how grim or loud they get.
