I just watched Bernie Sanders on CNN and he didn't smile once!

Last edited Mon Mar 21, 2016, 11:31 PM - Edit history (1)

Or if he did it was once in the first few minutes, before I started keeping a record. And he sure was louder than Hillary!!!!

Explanation. Most people seem not to get the point. I was alluding to the criticisms of HRC (Joe Scarborough being the latest) of not smiling enough and yelling. Whether we are Sanders or Clinton supporters we should abhor that kind of double standard. Right?

When giving a speech or being interviewed when being watched by a large crowd. As someone who used to give speeches - I had a hard time being warm and smiling. Unless you are a natural speaker or very experienced it's tough. Trump and Cruz are never seen smiling either. Kasich who used to be zen and smiled and laughed a lot is now being angry lately.

Bernie does appear to be a bit more angry and frustrated lately. I remember him smiling and laughing a bit more in the beginning. It's been a long, tough race. I do/have agreed with his message and ideas but feel Hillary is more prepared and is more electable (I'm sorry - but I'm also part of the demographic who wants to see a woman President). We have not seen the Repiublicans get a hold of Bernie yet - he has had a very easy ride so far IMO.

I hate to say that the great respect and enthusiasm I used to have for him as a maverick has gone down a bit. Just a result of me seeing him now as a politician instead of a rabble-rouser. I did like the old outsider Bernie much better.

This is another low point for DU.

120. Yes, even after I edited in an explanation.

I guess people are replying without reading. It's actually been a fascinating sociological peek into the minds of people. For one thing, most people on DU who are responders (less than a 10th of viewers, as far as I can tell) don't even know that Hillary has been attacked in this way. Probably don't realize that WOMEN are attacked in this way all the time.

Thanks for your comment.

... except the title. I can't see how you could say this if you'd read the explanation in the message that I finally realized was necessary. Also, look at post #44.

I meant to post this as a reply to the thread. It will be #124 or thereabouts.

They reveal a couple of things.

1 - Many (most?) people (Bernie supporters?) don't read anything but the title. Last night I put in an explanation of the post and I'm still getting responses as if I were criticizing Bernie. I'm not. Just defending Hillary's and all women's right to not smile. Knee jerk responses without listening aren't good for democracy.

2 - Many (most?) people (Bernie supporters?) aren't even aware of the criticism Hillary faces for her demeanor that men NEVER face. No matter how grim or loud they get.

.... the whole post. Also see respone #44. I have no problem with Bernie not smiling.

and their talking heads are a bunch of sexist jerks. "Hillary is Shrill, or not friendly enough", but if they have ever said the same thing regarding one of the male candidates on any side, it sure isn't pointed out like they do Hillary
