(45,319 posts)but she says the calls for her to drop out are 'historically unprecedented' and being uniquely done to her for reasons she did not care to speculate upon.
Also, DU had strong reactions to that. She was soundly condemned by many who are now supporting her with tireless gusto.
Here is 2016 Hillary Supporter Extraordinaire DanTex on the 'RFK was killed in June' interview:
"The problem is that Hillary rarely actually "means" any of the things she says. It's basically all spin and PR.
I mean, almost every single word out of her mouth during that whole statement was obvious BS:
-It's not "unprecedented in history" for candidates to withdraw (or to be urged to withdraw) for party unity. For example, the Reps urged Huckabee to withdraw for unity just this year.
-Nobody tried to push her out "since Iowa". It only started when she had less than 1% chance of winning without some catastrophe happening to Obama.
-The Obama camp has never suggested that she should drop out.
-She's lying through her teeth when she says "I don't understand" the unity argument -- unless she's completely braindead.
-The Bill Clinton analogy was BS
-The RFK analogy was BS.
100% BS. Did she "mean" any of it? Who knows what is going on in her head."
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x6111215
So there is no consistency to any of the Hillary boosters, they all used to hate her, no consistency in Hillary as she used to claim a long Primary was a good thing and asking candidates to drop out was wrong. Now she says the opposite, like DanTex....
Maybe she meant it as a double entendre. Her "official" meaning was that RFK was still campaigning. But she was in a particularly bitter mood, so she left the word "assassinated" as a jab.

By the way, you can say something a zillion times, but that doesn't make it true. You might pass that note along to your forked tongue candidate.

(11,953 posts)It's not a lot, but it's not nothing. In fact, it's not even as low as it's ever been (they had him at 3% at the end of February).
If you had a 1-in-20 shot at being nominated (and if nominated, then a better than even chance of being President), would you just walk away because you didn't like the odds? Add to the fact that your only opponent is under constant threat of investigation. What exactly would be the reason to quit? Meanwhile, even if he loses, he's continuing to get his message out, Which to Bernie might even be the most important part of the campaign.

(37,428 posts)Anyone who's stayed awake through an entire primary process knows this.
But here's a starting point for your research: 2008's second-place Democrat wound up in the goddamned Cabinet, and is using that experience now as part of what looks to be a winning candidacy.
Not quitting, and using won delegates as bargaining chips is exactly what you want a candidate to do, right?

(3,918 posts)hadn't started the entire primary process by saying that Hillary was the nominee...maybe more people in the early primary states would have come out to support Bernie.
Not long ago, every Democrat I knew said "I really want to vote for Sanders...but he doesn't have a chance". Not realizing that just by perpetuating that lame talking point...they were sealing Bernie's fate.
Bernie's momentum is phenomenal...even though Democratic party and the media continue to talk as if Hillary is the candidate!
The whole situation is no different that the media calling the race for Clinton in Arizona last night while thousand of people were still in line to vote!
mythology
(9,527 posts)He's bringing up issues that he and his supporters feel passionate about. If she is inevitable (and I would say that she is the overwhelming favorite at this point), then come the general election, Clinton will need as much of his supporters to vote etc for her as possible. If Sanders supporters get to the end and Clinton has won, Sanders and/or his ideas get a prominent place at the convention/in the party platform, his supporters might be more incentivized to buy into Clinton as the nominee.
And before you say that a long primary hurts the nominee, Clinton ran for a long time in 2008 and it didn't impact Obama's campaign.
If Sanders feels he can best push forward his goals by continuing to run, that's fine by me.
