2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumI think Trump's last act will end like this..
A packed arena in the deep South, sometime in late September. He'll do his usual entry and then say hello to the crowd and say, somethi,g like you guys are the best, the very best. Smartest folks I know.
Then suddenly he goes off script and continues, "But, I gotta be honest with you. There is no way I am capable of running this country. I was always in it to take down the Repubilican Party....and you agreed with me and it was easy! Too easy actually. I only wanted to show the voters how easy it was to run without a coherent idea to offer. Sorry, folks...will be offering full cost on the tickets for the show, but seriously....the Party is over.

(22,031 posts)Donald Trump's entire campaign has been so strange that "unconventional" doesn't come close to the weirdness of it. As he has now made it clear that he will not be making a pivot to the political and behavioral center, we can expect more bizarreness from him.
The problem with outrageous sensationalism is that you have to keep topping yourself. So far, Mr. Trump has consistently exceeded each of his previous statements to the point where he suggested assassinating Hillary Clinton should she win the election! This is absolutely unacceptable behavior from any one let alone a presidential candidate. But he's gotten away with it because we know there'll be something worse.
Now that he's made it clear that he's going all-in with his "Let Trump Be Trump" strategy, I'm confident that we'll see more insanity and I can't violate DU's TOS by writing some of the things I expect Donald Trump to do.
Mr. Trump is an idiot. He's also a very, very dangerous man.

(114,904 posts)Trump's new hires say this: Burn it all down. Politics of complete destruction.
It's like he's broadcasting, "I may go down, but I'm taking everything and everyone who slighted or opposed me, along for the hellacious trip".
First the unholy triad will attempt to destroy HRC however they can. If defeat looks inevitable, they'll continue with that and turn their wrath on establishment republicans.
It's a vile 84 days we're entering. Viler.

(43,173 posts)That would require him to think strategically and with a long term interest.
And nothing in his 70 years of life remotely indicates he's capable of that.
He's the same narcissistic train wreck with zero impulse control that he's always been and always will be.
There's not more to meets the eye with him. If anything, there's less.

(37,540 posts)Wouldn't he prefer to to admit the whole thing was performance art, rather than be tagged a loser? If he can't be a winner, I don't think he wants to be remembered as a loser.

(43,173 posts)He'd just find someone to scapegoat instead. That's how people with NPD act.
