We need a New Map.

I was looking for some data about polling and stumbled on this video...very interesting. The current map we use makes it seem as if our elections are much closer than they really are. Also, the GOP starts with a huge deficit with California and now that they have lost Virginia...they are on the ropes every presidential year. This is why Pennsylvania which Republicans have not won in years is a must win state for them. I hope you find this interesting

... when compared to the version that appears "morphed" and where the state shapes have been melted and swirled into proportionate sizes.

... for those who haven't seen it: next time you're at the 538 site, scroll about halfway down the page and you'll see it.

The "vast" acreage of redness disappears and a wave of blue engulfs the map. It's easy to see how insignificant Montana really is (electorally).

and shows what a minority viewpoint conservatism is becoming. Without the gerrymander ,( essentially dirty politics), the GOP would lose the House. It also makes you think...is it really fair that all states get two Senators?

1) Teevee Nooze doesn't exist to inform it's viewers. It exists to make a profit. Confusing the audience with a map that actually reflects electoral power & provides vital contextual information doesn't generate ad revenue.

2) A geographically accurate map provides an enormous amount of comfort to RWrs who see acreage as a reflection of their importance. These are the type of people who would whine endlessly, throw temper tantrums to the point of violence, and threaten reporters' lives when their world view is challenged.

3) The people that seek out such information such as a contextually accurate electoral map are more likely to understand it.
