2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumI used to question Hillary's honesty. Thanks to the Repubes, now I don't. Anyone else?
Honestly, this constantly crawling of the Repubes into Hillary's emails, her past....it's just made me see very clearly that she has absolutely nothing on her. Thanks to them, I really trust her now and I can't say that I have always felt that way.
Thanks GOOPers, you've made me support our nominee much more strongly. I might have been a little reluctant to vote for her but she is now in the "I will crawl to the polls if I have to" category.

(8,379 posts)First, thank you for supporting her. Second, thank you for your honest answer. And third, what is it that she has been dishonest about? I really want to have a civilized discussion about this (I'm directing that at anyone who is about to jump in, not you).

(108,925 posts)After seeing the Rethugs freak out because she didn't want to bake cookies in the White House, and then moving on to Travelgate, Christmastcard-gate, the Vince Forster "murder", etc. up to and including Benghazi, it is clear that while there has been a lot of smoke around Hillary over the decades, there has never been a fire. Just a GOP-owned smoke machine.
In 35 years of attacks and investigations, she has always held up. She is either super-woman, invincible, or they were just attacking her for their own purposes.
Either way (but I'm certain it's the latter), I'm with her.

(3,284 posts)The things they've said about her would probably keep me housebound for the rest of my life. Her strength and toughness are some of the things I admire the most about her; I honestly don't know how she deals with it.
It's laughable when Trump claims she doesn't have mental strength or stamina. That's rich coming from a thin-skinned man-baby.

(3,825 posts)of Karl Rove and the Republican Party for years. Remember, if you repeat the lie often enough, people will believe it. I experienced rat fucking up close and personal during the McGovern campaign and lived in Texas for almost 20 years, and the one thing they cannot let happen is for a woman who is a Democrat, gain power. That's been the guiding premise from the day she entered politics.

The decades-long RW attack on her and Bill give me a decided "boy who cried wolf" feeling about the whole thing. Seems like if there was ever anything real to find, they would have found it by now. Bunch of horseshit.

(14,154 posts)She's a politician for Petes sake. Of course she has lied, or to put it nicer, she has misdirected, exaggerated, spoke around the questions etc.
But that is, unfortunately a part of the toolbox of politics. Call me jaded. She is not running for pope. Any politician, any Democrat, would be rendered useless against the Republican opposition, and the corporate press, without having to dip into that toolbox at least occasionally.
But the demonization from the right, literally in some cases, is way beyond unfair, and mostly all total bullshit.
To me it's more about the platform and issues they want to tackle. And since she has embraced at least part of Bernies platform into her own, and now is getting his enthusiastic support, she has convinced me. And I don't care if she has to use all the tricks of the trade to implement that platform.

(13,218 posts)Because of their massive investigations that all turned up dry, I now consider Hillary the most honest and trustworthy politician on the planet.

(6,537 posts)bullshit. She's not a basically dishonest person. The repub vendetta waged against her and her family for so long is just a drawn out ideological pout. See, we were right and she was wrong! type of thing.

(7,788 posts)emails placed under a microscope by not only the gop but journalists and pundits for ANYTHING embarrassing and....nothing? How many politicians or officials could say that? Amazing, really.
this is why they are down to counting the number of pillows she likes on a couch or making hay out of wearing glasses. Same crap Obama went through....size of lapel pins, teleprompters, terrorist fist jabs, not praying hard enough on national prayer day, etc etc.
Why the gop has ANY air time at all and why anyone listens to them is...disappointing. Doesn't reflect well on our nation.
I can only imagine how good any of the Repubs would look under the Hillary microscope.

(46,804 posts)Maybe they need to tend to their own house for a change and quit trying to create scandals that don't exist.
I never really considered Hillary particularly dishonest, but until recently she wasn't a great candidate. She clearly was not that comfortable being in the public eye, which I find totally understandable. She has come a long way and finally seems to be comfortable in her own skin. Also, I think she may have stopped listening to bad political advice like she got from Mark Penn & Co.

(42,676 posts)political energy or feeding their own in the sense of the public resources
spent on investigating this woman? These committees, staff, overtime,
security, admin overhead, lawyers, investigators and consultants, these
all cost big money. Most are Republicans too, and they get all the fees, then
they have more income to donate to Republicans. Owning the legal profession
is an intergenerational occupation that fleeces taxpayers.

(7,286 posts)Very dumb but compared to some really big ones told by current candidates running for office, rather trivial.
The fact that she was moved to the cockpit area during the flight for safety reasons was what gave her that narrative, and she only told the story on the stump a few times.
Mercy me, she misremembered and exaggerated. Please bring me the smelling salts as I do believe I may faint.

(4,640 posts)Agreed. Scorpios DO like to play things close to the vest.
In all the years I've observed her, aside from the usual pol exaggerations here and there, she's been unusually truthful for a politician, IMO.
As far as careful speech, she's a LAWYER, so that's kind of a built in thing with most lawyers I've ever met.

(5,106 posts)When Bill was in office, she was laughed at for claiming a "vast right wing conspiracy," but that conspiracy came out of the closet on President Obama's inauguration day. Since then, Mitch McConnell's been blatantly shirking his responsibilities in Congress and bragging about sabotaging Obama...and the poisonous turtleman (negates a lifetime of never ridiculing a person's appearance for me) is not the only one, just the most proudly upfront about it. THIS is functioning government? And the Democrat's equal fault? Check out Bill's convention speech regarding Hillary's achievements over the years: easy to prove or disprove. The woman IS politically ambitious: everyone who runs for POTUS, regardless of personal record, has got to be. Trump, in fact, might be just personally egotistic and a little panicked about having to sacrifice his present lifestyle if elected. Hillary is infinitely qualified, certainly as much as any man elected before. As for honesty: probably Jimmy Carter tops her---and look what they did to him at the time.
