Donald Trump: 'Two Americas: Immigration' Campaign 2016
Play Video0:31
The first general election television ad from Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump's campaign accuses Democratic rival Hillary Clinton of keeping the "system rigged." Trump released the ad Aug. 19. (Donald Trump)
In Hillary Clintons America, illegal immigrants
[are] collecting Social Security benefits, skipping the line.
voice-over in a Donald Trump campaign ad, Aug. 19, 2016
The Donald Trump campaign released its first political ad of the general election, focused on immigration. It begins with a hypothetical situation of what immigration would look like under Democrat Hillary Clintons America.
..................Even, its not accurate to say they are skipping the line. People who obtain lawful status under DACA need to work for at least 10 years, pay taxes and reach retirement age before they are eligible to receive Social Security benefits.
Trump has already earned 41 Four-Pinocchio ratings. We would have liked to see the nominee finally stick closer to the facts in his first general-election ad. Unfortunately, this ad is to borrow a line from its script more of the same. The broad assertion in this ad is just not supported by facts, and thus earns Four Pinocchios.

(17,911 posts)...this meme has been circulating amongst the ignorant, grossly uninformed / misinformed and racist crowd for years. I've debunked it more than a few times. It's not just Social Security. There's a whole litany of memes about welfare, SNAP etc. I've explained more than a few times that it's virtually impossible for non-citizens to take advantage of these benefits due to documentation that most illegals simply don't have. And more importantly, just by attempting to sign up, they run a huge risk of a one way trip to an ICE detention cell. In short, they ain't going to risk it unless they're as fucking stupid as those who actually believe the bullshit memes.

(58,785 posts)are paying every pay period every year into Social Security, workers compensation, and unemployment funds that that they will almost certainly never collect a dime from.
This is something that not only they know, but that their employers, the insurance companies, and state and federal government agencies all know and base their accounting and budgets on.

(3,426 posts)Unless they are self-employed and don't file a tax return, they have no choice but to pay into the system all of their working lives
Social Security and Medicare and all sorts of things would be even worse off if everyone who paid in could actually collect.
If anything, we should be encouraging more undocumented immigrants, just for that.

(17,911 posts)...many of Chump's post 65 supporters are drawing benefits off the backs of undocumented workers. The undocumented will most likely never see a penny.

Faux and Trump said it
I believe it
That settles it.
The thing you have to understand is that they don't want to believe that these statements are false. They want to believe that their problems are all caused by [insert favorite minority group(s) here]. They don't want to believe that trickle-down doesn't work.
So when the Washington Post or the New York Times or Snopes, or Rachael Maddow, or any other honest source fact-checks these statements they just refer back to Faux and Trump, because they want to believe.
