NYT: In Maze of Trump’s Empire, Unknown Ties and $650 Million in Debt

On the campaign trail, Donald J. Trump, the Republican presidential nominee, has sold himself as a businessman who has made billions of dollars and is beholden to no one.

But an investigation by The New York Times into the financial maze of Mr. Trump’s real estate holdings in the United States reveals that companies he owns have at least $650 million in debt — twice the amount than can be gleaned from public filings he has made as part of his bid for the White House. The Times’s inquiry also found that Mr. Trump’s fortunes depend deeply on a wide array of financial backers, including one he has cited in attacks during his campaign.

<...>

Real estate projects often involve complex ownership and mortgage structures. And given Mr. Trump’s long real estate career in the United States and abroad, as well as his claim that his personal wealth exceeds $10 billion, it is safe to say that no previous major party presidential nominee has had finances nearly as complicated.

As president, Mr. Trump would have substantial sway over monetary and tax policy, as well as the power to make appointments that would directly affect his own financial empire. He would also wield influence over legislative issues that could have a significant impact on his net worth, and would have official dealings with countries in which he has business interests.

Was about to post on LBN when I got a NYT banner for it but I think this is more analysis. It definitely should be no surprise. That obscene amount of debt from the "I love debt" master, is obviously something that might prompt one to look "east" (and not China) for salvation.

AND it isn't any kind of secret either. Journalists don't have to do a lot of digging to see what kind of businessman Trump is. Most of it is public knowledge. They could do an expose-a-day until November and there would probably still be some left over.

Not only is Trump a greedy, dishonest businessman, he a really BAD businessman.

now that their nominee is finally being vetted. And "early" meaning not to give us a damn fiscal year 2017 appropriation, but to get those "perjury hearings" against Hillary up and running as fast as they can... and to hell with the government shutting down.

and other outlets are probably out there digging. They have just a couple months left of reporting leading up to the election and there certainly is PLENTY of material out there for them to discover and comb through (that they ignored up until this point). If anything, he has always been a braggart about how "crooked" he is but managed to get away with it because he is some sort of YUUUUGGGGE master of anything "business-related". He has left behind a long trail of destruction in whatever he touched.

A number of them come into Philly (hopping a ride with Mennonites) to sell goods at Philly's Reading Terminal, so I am sure they hear "the other side" of Trump's trumped-up story -

I mean, the Don has gone bankrupt numerous times, but I never expected his debt to be that immense. But who cares, Trump and his businesses are all built on a bunch of lies and bullshit. Let's hope that when he loses by a landslide in November, that he disappears from the media spotlight.

There are a number of us who believe that he is setting up to start his own media company (with the hiring of Bannon from Breitbart) and with Ailes (now out from Fox) creeping around in the background as an "advisor".

http://www.newyorker.com/news/john-cassidy/what-are-donald-trump-roger-ailes-and-steve-bannon-really-up-to

When Ailes left, there were stipulations in Hannity's, Van Susteren's, and O'Reilly's contracts that they could exit with him.

And Republicans in Congress are so busy diving into the splinter in the eye of Hillary's emails they're ignoring the moat of Trump's Russian connections, massive debt and multiple bankruptcies.

If that were Hillary they'd be all over it. So don't EVER tell me that they don't agree with Trump when he spouts his racist, misogynist and xenophobic shit. He is theirs, and they're supporting him and EVERYTHING he stands for.
