2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumA Sobering Snapshot from South Florida
I was just at the local car wash here in Boca Raton - border of south Palm Beach County and north Broward County. This area is as wealthy as wealthy can be. The attendant was conducting a poll asking each customer who they were planning to vote for in this presidential election. It looked as though he had about 150 replys. Trump had about 70% and Clinton 25% with maybe 5% neither.
As a Bernie supporter, up until probably 2 weeks ago I would have guaranteed with money that I would not vote for Hillary, or Trump. I've since come to grips with reality and am solidly behind Hillary. No matter how we ended up where we are, this is where we're at. And, we better make damned sure nothing is taken for granted.

(5,062 posts)I fear complacency and spite. Either one could hand the victory to Trump.

(707 posts)I am still 100% behind his message while wanting whole heartedly that Clinton beats Trump to a pulp (figuratively of course).

(6,551 posts)I completely support Bernie's message and always have. I'd wager that many long-time Hillary supporters feel the same.

Maybe that place is a known hangout for Trump supporters?

(12,600 posts)Broward and Palm Beach counties' votes in 2012 and both went heavily for Obama. So maybe this car wash was in a peculiarly Publican neighborhood. Or maybe they were pulling the attendant's leg.

(43,155 posts)Along the ocean and Intercoastal it's mostly downright wealthy. The more western portions of the city limits are middle middle class. Then to the west of the city limits you have a mix of middle to upper middle class planned communities with a lot of families, a few large retirement communities, and some heavily Jewish communities. Believe it or not, there are a handful of lower income areas, but those are mostly few and far between....there is one trailer community that I know of that has a klansman who flies his Klan flag over his trailer proudly, but from all reports his neighbors don't care much for that.

Your experience doesn't reflect the reality of SOFL.

(43,155 posts)Based on the zip code, I'm assuming that picture was taken near Gainesville. The rural outlying areas where that picture was taken are all red but probably a half hour from that you get to Gainesville, a solidly blue, forward thinking progressive city. But you just keep on trashing an entire state, okay?
Also, not sure if you were being sarcastic with your spelling, but yeah.....

(22,380 posts)I was driving in the area of Palatka, and headed South to Eustis. I very much enjoyed the bucolic sights
and was happy to be away from the busy highways of the coastal areas that do not allow exploration of Florida's landscape.
What did I misspell? English is my second language, and the learning never ends.

(73,630 posts)in 2012, Obama took Palm Beach County, 58.3% vs. Romnut's 41.8%.
It's a solidly Democratic area. I chalk up the results to the fact that we're only talk about an unscientific straw pool here.

(1,236 posts)While sitting around waiting for the flight I heard the some of the wildest crazy shit I've ever heard (and I am from Texas!) and how it is all Hillary's fault. The depth of ignorance was breathtaking.
Now, I am still not a Hillary supporter (although I will vote for her), but where they come up with this shit is something I'll never figure out.

(5,518 posts)All of the car wash places I know in BOCA are in the east where there is a fair bit of money. It would not surprise me if trump was winning in the "get-others-to-wash-my-car" demographic.
I also find a lot of contractors living in my area and I find them to be super conservative. Something about that intersection between high wages without advanced education.
I would just prefer to act as if the race is tied so that every vote is needed. Because it is needed down ballot.

(43,155 posts)Did you actually sit there and watch the guy poll every customer, or did you just take his word for it?
Trust me, Boca, Palm Beach County and South Florida are not going for Trump.
My money's on the entire state of Florida going blue for the third presidential election in a row.
