McCrory Falls Behind By Nine Points In North Carolina Governor's Race

North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory (R) polled nine points behind Democratic challenger Roy Cooper in a Monmouth poll of the state's gubernatorial election.

Cooper leads McCrory 52-43, with Libertarian candidate Lon Cecil polling at 3 percent.

McCrory has gained national attention for signing HB2, which prevents cities and counties from passing their own anti-discrimination rules and barred individuals from the right to sue their workplace for any kind of discrimination.

Among those polled, 55 percent disapproved of HB2 and another 70 percent thought the legislation gave North Carolina a bad reputation nationally. Monmouth had not previously polled the North Carolina governor's election, but a NBC/WSJ/Marist poll from earlier this month showed Cooper ahead by seven percent, 51-44.

GOTV indeed. Work the phones. Knock on doors. Tell a friend. Get them registered and see them to the polls for the landslide victory they can be a part of.

Can't get rid of this a$$hole soon enough for me. I hope a bunch of his merry band of bigots in the Legislature get pink slipped, too.

Republicans have done a huge amount of damage to NC in four short years. Unfortunately, the Rovian Bush bot the Republican
Board of Governors hired last March as President of the UNC System has a 5 year contract and she's wasted no time in setting out to destroy
one of the best public universities in the country. I hope she gets ridden out of town on a rail, too.

specifically, Charlotte; the current governor was/is very different from the 14 yrs he ran this city. Granted here he had to work with a bipartisan and mostly Democratic city council, county commission, and school board. He has never really had support statewide outside of the greater Charlotte area to begin with, and he only won due to a totally inept previous D governor and the virtually unknown Walter Dalton.

With the rapid embrace of #HB2 and the fallout from it, he has screwed his only base area of support, and should go down in flames if the election is legit. Roy Cooper is your typical Southern Democrat [meaning not progressive enough] but is respected in this state and will undo most of the damage left behind. Even previous R governors such as Richard Vinroot [another former CLT mayor] was moderate by comparison and didn't destroy the educational system of which he is a product of.

I am looking forward to Senator Anthony Foxx in 2020!

even when many Democrats here did.

I handed out literature at the polls for Jennifer Roberts congressional bid the year he ran for Governor and talked to many Democrats who split their vote for him. He was already Art Pope's little puppet, but they were not really paying attention, I guess. I just shook my head. Bet they have buyer's remorse now.

I'm so glad that Jennifer Roberts is my mayor! Voted for her when she ran of congress and think the city is on the right track, as much influence as Mayor's have.

It makes sense that he would be fairly moderate while mayor of Charlotte. Duke Energy needed Charlotte to provide a decent environment.

Once McCrory got elected governor, he became beholden to a completely different group of people - the Kochs, their man in NC Art Pope, and the tea party. Add to that the takeover of the state legislature by far-right cretins, and Pat is being led by a very toxic group indeed.

Poor Pat is not very bright. He just does what he's told. And he has a bad temper.
