Women poised to lead Democratic return to power in the Senate

Female candidates are leading the push for a Democratic return to power in the Senate as Donald Trump’s sagging poll numbers leave the Republican majority under extreme pressure.

Even before Trump became the Republican presidential nominee, Democrats had a decent chance of picking up enough seats to wrest the Senate majority from Mitch McConnell’s hands: they need only four seats if there’s a Democratic president, or five if there’s not.

And in five of the seven states where Democrats have a strong chance of picking up seats, the candidates are women.

Hillary Clinton is no insignificant alumna, either.

But Stabenow, Klobuchar, Warren, Murray, Mikulski and Boxer, to name a few, have been powerful voices on our side. I'm very sorry to see Mikulski and Boxer retire, and hope to see Harris replace Boxer in California, as well seeing new Democratic women represent (e.g.) New Hampshire, Pennsylvania and North Carolina in the Senate next year.

The Republicans have some women Senators as well but the reviews there are decidedly mixed. Collins of Maine is OK, as Republicans go, but Ernst of Iowa is an embarrassment to the Senate and the country. One can only hope that Iowa has realized what an embarrassment she is to that state as well.

criminal. This is such a good sign and I see many positive changes in our future.
