2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumToday, HRC has one more vote in NV
That's because I am now officially a U.S. citizen! I've just concluded the oath ceremony and I promptly registered to vote.
Though I now work in the Bay Area, my residence is in Las Vegas so I will be voting by absentee ballot and add one more to HRC's total and to other democrats down ballot.
I'm enthusiastically with her!

(58,785 posts)What a nice time to get to vote. This may be the most significant election for decades. At least I hope we don't see another with so much so dreadfully at stake.

(26,598 posts)If I were a new citizen, and still liked my birth country, I'd keep duel citizenship. Even if it's discouraged by your oath, it's still legal, and you never know with candidates like Trump, if your birth country will start to look better.

(2,654 posts)while the oath discourages it, the actual policy of the U.S. government on the topic is ambivalence. I've met many people with multiple nationalities (usually British commonwealth countries) and a U.S. citizenship. It makes for messy international travel but you get to pick the shorter lines.

(21,055 posts)You probably know more about our country and its constitution than a majority of native born Americans.
Especially a certain orange colored Cheeto candidate running for President.

(2,654 posts)and I was a poli sci major too, specializing on U.S. politics. I get a kick of debating Cheetos-loving people with their watered-down 'knowledge' (loosely used/defined) of U.S. history and politics...
