2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumGrappling with the close election, I turned on Faux "news". The problem is, these guys lie all day.
How is this any different than yelling "fire" in a crowded theater?
They are allowed to insinuate and outright state treasonous bullshit 24-7 on the public airwaves.
I know we all just turn it off but half the country swallows this garbage.
It is just nuts that Hillary, competent and ready to hit the ground running 100% ready, is only a few points away from the incompetent nut ball Cheeto Benito, too close for comfort, and close enough for them to steal.

(49,322 posts)and a decent ground operation. Romney also had a large majority of the white women vote.
Trump has none of that going for him and his polls within the minority communities are the lowest in history.
In addition to all of the above, the media is set to do all in it's power to prevent a sociopath from reaching the White House.

I read you on the first points, but wish I agreed on the last point.
Also, Romney was running against President Obama and that was just never going to fly.
I'll take a double of your optimism though. It will help me sleep better at night.
Peace to you and your ohana!

(49,322 posts)the positivity which was generated from our wonderful Democratic Convention just a short time ago, I am confident we'll have an easy victory.
Mahina, please remember Hillary is in command of the electoral map. On election night she'll get to 270 before Trump is able to finish his KFC supper.
Please relax, although you may want to keep a scorecard on the senatorial races.

(14,852 posts)It's nearly impossible for politicians to sue for slander, and people in the media know it. If a corporation or businessman was slandered in similar ways, the media outlet might get successfully sued.
I'm not sure what can be done about it. I used to think bringing back The Fairness Doctrine would help, but that's more about giving an opposition party the right to reply.
The main problem is lack of honesty, however. I truly don't mind if part of the media is strongly conservative if they made a real effort to be honest... or face consequences where it hurts them the most (money).

Iran is emboldened and strengthened by our foreign policy blunders and is probably going to defeat us as a result.
Hillary Clinton has sold America out and is a desperate danger to our national security.
For starters. It was looney tunes.
