WASHINGTON Sen. Marco Rubio and Rep. Patrick Murphy will face each other in Florida's general-election Senate race, voters decided Tuesday.
Rubio cruised to victory with nearly 72% of the vote in his bid for the Republican nomination to seek a second term, and Murphy won nearly 60% in the Democratic nomination race to face Rubio on Nov. 8.
The Rubio-Murphy matchup could decide which party controls the Senate next year.
Even before polls opened Tuesday morning, more than 1.7 million Floridians had filled out a ballot either by mail or at an early-voting site.

(404 posts)From his humiliating foray into the presidential primary. He cruised to victory on auto pilot and what's worse, Repubs cast about 300,000 more votes than Dems did. Every bit of anecdotal evidence I see and hear in Florida points toward Republican victory in November.

Unable to be certified as an accountant in Florida due to lack of credits, but no prob, flitting from temp job to temp job to temp job to scion vice presidency in his dad's business, with rich-dad's help always "upward," Republican changing to Democrat to run for youngest member of Congress thanks to the most money spent in the nation, won reelection thanks to the most money spent in the nation in spite of being on the DCCC's endangered species list (still Dem but some heavy-duty water carrying for the GOP along the way), now 33 and all ready for the Senate!
I'd vote for the bantomweight business-suckup schmuck with no accomplishments but self aggrandisement, but what a crappy choice.

(404 posts)He got 18% of the vote. Looking over the primary results is f#%&ing depressing, incumbents cruising to victory everywhere in the state. A couple judges I voted for got in but I was like 3 for 12 on all other votes. Same ole same ole with no change. Everybody is completely happy with our high speed hand basket to hell apparently.

(58,785 posts)The reason I'd vote for Murphy if we were living full time in Florida (just reading his history is depressing) is that I trust Obama's and Harry Reid's decisions, even if I feel I don't know what's behind them.
There have to be good reasons, and maybe a really good one--beyond the usual "unelectable" explanation--for them to promote a frequent Republican defector over Grayson. Murphy can't be what they'd want in a good Democratic senator, and I don't for a minute believe it's some petty nonsense about Grayson's irritating them either. They're pros, and this isn't a playground at recess.
