CNN: Trumps Appeal to Minority Voters Seems to Have Backfired

Trump, speaking to a nearly all-white audience, painted African-Americans with a stereotypically broad brush as "living in povert

Trump's rhetoric around race, ethnicity and nationality have depressed his numbers among every demographic -- he is underperforming past Republican presidential candidates in nearly every voting bloc.

A Quinnipiac poll released last week found that a majority of likely voters -- 59% -- think that the way Trump talks appeals to bigotry. Some 29% of Republicans think that way and 72% of non-whites have the same view.

Trump's attempts to broaden his reach beyond his core supporters have largely backfired and likely hardened views against him.

he embarked on a strategy that maximized his chances to win the primary by appealing to the biggest bloc of republicans -- the bigots.

unfortunately for him, that left him with nowhere to really go in the general election campaign.

his strategery of throwing hate at just about every group out there shut him out from any real prospect of broadening the base beyond the bigots and the reluctant party die-hard loyalists.

gosh i feel oh so sorry for him.

since tRump has based his entire campaign on being a Mussolini-style strongman, trying ineffectively to navigate away from his nasty racist positions to ones of sane moderation only hurts the branding he's already established and doesn't get him anything from the people who didn't want a fascist freak running things in the first place. his campaign was designed to run on a shoestring using free media coverage instead of advertising and fleece a lot of idiot Republicans in the process; you can't just turn a con-job into legit politics overnight.

now we get to see how the Clinton campaign tears him apart for this.
