There was a petition years ago by most, if not all, state attorneys general calling for his release. He got a very raw deal.

scams in Politics. There was a story about a particular African-American State Legislator with big time clout,being wrapped up in some kind of corruption deal in Birmingham. And there was some type of tit for tat that cost Don his freedom. Trent Lott was lurching in the back ground. It is all about saving face or exposing the slimy under belly of Politics.

MANY someones, in fact. Apparently there's a political element to this miserable situation, and President Obama has decided not to ignore it and to do the right thing.
