Why would Peņa seek to legitimize Trump?

Seriously? What could possibly be gained for the people of Mexico by legitimizing Trump by inviting him there and giving him a platform to create "presidential optics" for the media?

You and I both know that the media is now going to fawn over Trump standing there at a very official looking podium, speaking calmly and warmly of his "substantive discussion" with Peña Nieto.

Is this guy trying to lose his own next election?

Oh, and the opportunity to look like an old, disheveled idiot who can't read his own language worth a shit.

Trump came off as a fool who had to eat his words while adding new insults to the old injuries he was trying to wash away.

depressed Republican Party. He needs to moderate for Kasich to deliver Ohio. This Mexican president just hurt us very badly today. In the next two weeks, the poll numbers will make what I'm saying look much clearer. This was a devastating day for our interests. Fact is, he looked like death warmed over getting make up applied and hair dyed at the morgue. His rambling nonsense of a blend of apology, insults, and attempting to undo the damage he caused himself for over a year was insulting to everyone of some intelligence. His fear-mongering was stupid in the extreme, but no doubt played well with his core of racist supporters in the USA. His fawning over the "tremendous number" of Mexicans he employs was over-the-top gratuitous blather that can only be perceived as insincere given his past statements.

Well, I better stop before I really get started .... he's not just the Ugly American personified, he's the Piñata of the Century.
