Rove: GOP needs candidates that reflect diversity

GOP strategist Karl Rove says California Republicans need to "get up off of the mat" and find new ways to reach voters if they are to regain popularity in the nation's most populous state.

Rove's speech Saturday at the state party convention referred to the party's recent deep losses in the state.

He says the state GOP needs to focus on larger themes of restoring jobs and reducing government spending, and that the party must recruit candidates who reflect the diversity of the country, and in particular California.

By next year, Hispanics will overtake whites as the state's largest demographic group.

Rove says that rebuilding would be "a big task," but noted Texas as an example. Once a Democratic stronghold, Texas elected Republicans to 95 of 150 state House seats.

I was hoping we'd seen the end of Rove. The party is worse off than I thought if that's all they have to advise them.

More diversity would be a great thing. For example, there are some creationists who believe the earth is 6.000 years old, and there are some who believe it could be as much as 10,000. They should make their tent big enough to accommodate both dates.

And politically, there are some who believe the wall on the Mexican border should be 10 feet high, and some say 20. They can just agree to disagree on that, can't they?

Some, of course, believe Prez Obama is the worst president ever, and some say Carter. They should go with the big tent on that, and stop quibbling; it's clear that one of them is the worst, right?

They can make the wall 10 feet high in some places and 20 in others...this way, the company in TJ that makes eleven-foot ladders and the company in Ensenada that makes 21-foot ladders will both have work.

is what he means.

preferably capable of not spewing incredibly stupid things when they open their mouths, but that is optional.

The point isn't WHAT they say or how the think or view the world.

He simply is letting any sell out with dark skin willing to be a conservative hero to run for office while still slogging ahead with their plan to destroy the country.

Rove proves that he doesn't understand what the real problems facing Republicans is. It's not the skin color of the speaker (there are plenty of white Democrats), it's not the messaging, it's the POLICIES! And most people will (rightly) reject the policies whether they're touted by blacks, hispanics, gays, etc.

Not that I hope they ever actually figure it out...........

your party doesn't want to do the things that are actually necessary to win us over. It's not enough just to put some non-white faces in speaking roles or in GOP primaries. There are plenty of issues for you to jump on that the Democrats haven't already, and it would be wise to at least moderate your stances. For example, campaigning on ending the Drug War or campaigning on lower taxes while leaving out the religious extremism wouldn't be a bad idea. But, no. You just want to continue enraging more voters than you attract.
You brought this on yourselves.
