'Rude' lawmaker Louie Gohmert pulls rank on cops over parking ticket
By JAKE SHERMAN and JOHN BRESNAHAN | 3/27/13 10:43 AM EDT
A Texas Republican congressman got into a late-night verbal altercation with U.S. Park Police officers earlier this month, pulling rank in an attempt to get out of a parking ticket near the Lincoln Memorial.
Shortly after 11 p.m. on March 13, officers wrote Rep. Louie Gohmert a citation for parking his black Ford SUV in a spot reserved for National Park Service vehicles, according to a Park Police report obtained by POLITICO.
But Gohmert wasnt having it: He told the Park Police that his congressional parking placard allows him to park in that spot, and hes on the committee that oversees the agency.
....
He was rude and irate, one officer reported. Another wrote that Gohmert was ranting.
Hat tip: the DCist:
Texas Republican Insists That He Can Park Wherever He Pleases, U.S. Park Police Disagrees
Thankfully, the Park Police isn't backing down, saying today that a congressional placard would certainly allow Gohmert to park most anywhere he wantsbut not in the spot he chose near the Lincoln Memorial, and certainly while not on official business.
The $25 fine stands, and is payable to the D.C. government. But given that Gohmert tried to pull rank, what are the chances that he actually pays it?

(93 posts)Let Texas deal with this moron, and wasting taxpayers' dollars.
Go on, Boehner, or we'll start a discharge petition ordering the Ethics Committee to investigate the moron and kick him out of Congress.
And fined $50,000 for wasting an official's time with his moronic rants.
And placard is permanently revoked. Gomer needs to learn how to use the MTA.

(53,661 posts)Look to see this insane clown try to cut funding or put ridiculous clauses into omnibus spending bills anonymously just like the freak who put the Monsanto amendment into a huge bill that HAD to be signed. It's the way that Republicans screw Americans daily.
The problem is this particular lunatic's district will cheer whatever he does to the Park Service as 'sticking it to the man' and being tough on the Obama administration. The thought processes people use to justify such blatant irresponsible acts and Republican hubris are endlessly nauseating.
