Why Ashley Judd Flipped Against Run For Senate

Why Ashley Judd Flipped Against Run For Senate

WASHINGTON -- Former Sen. Wendell H. Ford is 88 years old, but still in full possession not only of his faculties but also of his role as the godfather of the Democratic Party in Kentucky. His conversation earlier this year with Ashley Judd may, in the end, have helped change the actress's mind about running for the U.S. Senate in 2014.

Judd had told at least three political allies in Kentucky that she was planning to run, The Huffington Post reported earlier this month. After that story appeared, she issued no denial. In fact, Judd's spokesperson claimed that she was receiving steady expressions of support from voters.

But Judd had also discussed with Ford, the state's former governor, her fast-developing plan to seek the Democratic nomination to oppose incumbent Republican Sen. Mitch McConnell.

"She asked me what I thought and I told her," Ford said.

are the best choice.

I remember quite a bit of consternation when Caroline Kennedy got passed over for Hillary Clinton's Senate seat.

That turned out to be the best decision David Paterson made in office.

and was a partisan warrior.

It's not that Judd was unqualified, it's that in general a candidate who's gotten a little blood and dirt on their uniform in the past is a safer bet for a nasty electoral fight.

Winning elections is hard.

The only reason she lives in Tennessee is because her sister bought her a house there.

Anyway, now it seems she has bought a house in Kentucky so hopefully she will run for a seat there later in the future

4. I would question the reasons why Ford wouldn't support Judd.

There were probably too many obstacles in the way. Especially with the likes of Ford who is a relic of the past and the current Governor.

Let's be clear kids, Hillary learned from 2008. She is already dropping the "it's Hillary or nobody" commandops over cyberspace, especially at pleaces like DU, and anyone to her left is already getting choked out. Sad thing is, even if the GOP implodes, the right will get a right wing party, it's just that it will be the democrats.
