It's lousy policy from military and morale standpoint for many reasons.

And, if you think the guy or gal is a traitor, all the more reason, IMO, to pull him or her out and bring them home for interrogation and trial.

Or, you could be a total jerk, simply for the sake of being a total jerk.

Leave a potential traitor with the enemy, so they can continue to be of help to them. Make it clear to people you are trying to recruit and have to loyal to you that desire to return them home is a crap shoot. (Then try to train them that bringing home their military brothers and sisters is their prime directive.)

I would be scared to death to be serving under under a Republican (mis-)administration ever. They're probably going to shift gears if and when they win the WH again but who's going to take the chance seeing what's going on right now- the thought that if you get captured, Fox and right-wingers will determine your value and determine if you're "worthy" enough of being rescued/recovered at some point. I wonder what a lot of soldiers must be thinking right now seeing what they're doing to Bowe. No doubt some of them are heavily plugged into Limbaugh and Fox and probably think that they're all going to be worth saving if THEY wind up captured but some of them probably are re-thinking their dedication to their job if Republicans get to occupy the WH again. Maybe? The GOP just keeps pushing the envelope further. They've eliminated the taboo around torture, indefinite detention, and, apparently, now they've decided that they get to pick and choose the fate of our captured servicemembers depending on whether they are "likable" or "American" enough.

Why on Earth do military people usually vote Republican? We have a serious disconnect running through our society

We have two unbreakable rules at odds with each other, "We don't leave soldiers behind" and "We don't negotiate with terrorists." Fox News probably had graphics prepared for whichever one he violated.

I Couldn't believe it, well I kinda come to expect it from any Republican, when I heard he was one of the first ones to come out against it, I thought what hypocrisy.
