GOP struggles to recruit black voters, candidates

JESSE J. HOLLAND, ASSOCIATED PRESS

SMYRNA, Ga. (AP) — Like an eager date, Leo Smith showed up at Mount Zion First Baptist Church with a bouquet of flowers in hand.

He wasn’t seeking romance. He was seeking voters.

As the minority engagement director for the Georgia Republican Party, Smith is helping to lead an effort to recruit African-American voters in pivotal states, a priority for a heavily white party staring with uncertainty at a country that is fast becoming more brown.

Smith and other black Republicans who are recruiting voters say there are plenty of black conservatives out there. They just don’t want to be identified publicly as conservative or Republican.

1st stop - Happy Shiny Jesus People

2nd stop - Historically Black Colleges

3rd stop - the folks that knocked on my door on Saturday afternoon to try and solidify every single vote in my town for the Republican Congressional candidate

"minority engagement director for the Republican Party" has to be the best short-term job in America ... I would liken that to being a football Field-goal Kicker that is never expected to actual kick a Field Goal; or a Baseball Clean Up Hitter, that is never expected to get a hit; or a salesperson that is never expected to make a sale ... just take the field at the appropriate time and get paid!

as a T-Rex going vegan. Why should we vote for people who insult us and work aggressively to keep us from the polls?
