Schweitzer Apologizes For 'Stupid And Insensitive Remarks'

CAITLIN MACNEAL – JUNE 19, 2014, 5:54 PM EDT

Former Montana Gov. Brian Schweitzer on Thursday apologized for comments he made during an interview with National Journal, presumably ones about House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) and Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA).

"I recently made a number of stupid and insensitive remarks to a reporter from the National Journal. I am deeply sorry and sincerely apologize for my carelessness and disregard," Schweitzer wrote in a Facebook post.

During the interview, the former governor said men from the South like Cantor "are a little effeminate."

He also made an inappropriate comment about Feinstein when discussing her stance on NSA spying practices. "She was the woman who was standing under the streetlight with her dress pulled all the way up over her knees, and now she says, 'I'm a nun,' when it comes to this spying!" Schweitzer told National Journal. "I mean, maybe that's the wrong metaphor—but she was all in!"

Seriously, he is done.

I mean in the name of anything sane would he say what he said?

He shouldn't have 'thought' those things let alone said them. If you are thinking those things - get outta my party!

But those weren't just slips of the tongue. He sounded like he meant what he said about Feinstein, Cantor and Southern men in general.

President Obama wisely told him to tone it down. He ignored the advice. I'm sure his colorful colloquialisms played well in the bar on the edge of his ranch. But the larger audience he needed to impress probably not so much.

He managed to offend many segments of the population with one comment with his pandering.

I really liked him, too. Such a shame!

but he goes too far. He fails to understand we aren't the Tea Party and coming out with wild statements is not going to make you the next superstar. He's done. He thought he could be the "left" challenger in 2016 but I don't see it. We still have Bernie.
