Congress ends war on medical marijuana

In a landmark moment for cannabis law reform, the U.S. House of Representatives approved a measure late Thursday night to de-fund the federal war on medical marijuana. The provision passed the Senate Saturday and went to the White House Monday, where it is expected to be signed by President Obama, bringing a halt to the three-year-long medi-pot crackdown in California and other states.

The Hinchey-Rohrabacher Amendment to the $1.1 trillion cromnibus spending bill blocks the use of Department of Justice funds to “prevent [medical marijuana states] from implementing their own State laws that authorize the use, distribution, possession, or cultivation of medical marijuana.”

1) Did anybody expect this? It just fell on my head out of the blue here
2) Is this as important as I think it is? An end to the Feds' war on MM?

#1. I expected it. Our Justice Dept had to be tough on cannabis laws since we have the first Black POTUS.

#2. I believe it's an end to the Feds' war on MM because it opens the door for more local taxes and fees. In the end it's always about money.

with shutting down the use of medical marijuana. I hope Congress told Holder to use the money to prosecute Wall Street crime.

for medical marijuana was probably helpful as both Parties had strong advocates supporting this and the opposition is just a bunch of hot air about it, they don't really care.

posted a pic of his democratic challenger's home so his nutbag gun-toting friends could know where it was, and apparently has a reputation for his way or the highway "kill government except for what I want" behavior.

Libertarian, he says.

Someone painted a swastika on some of his campaign signs a few years back and he got all offended.

He is the single biggest champion of any politician for mmj over here that I have heard from, making for an interesting coalition. The dems apparently want to kill mmj and go recreational, regardless of how hateful and mean-spirited it would be.

Funny how people still think they can regulate it, can't figure out the reason it is changing is because they couldn't. Can't until they outlaw 5 gallon plastic pails and compact fluorescent lights and leds, anyway.
