Are you relaying that at the funeral of the killed officer in NY that attending police are actually turning their backs on the Mayor -- during the service?

Is it on TV?

If that is the case ... then that is really, really in very poor taste and the NY police union is deserving of any and all contempt aimed at it.

I'm one for vigorous protest, dissent, debate, etc.

But holy cow, that kind of behavior at a funeral for "one of their own" is disgusting and disrespectful.
Those that engaged in this display have got to be the most selfish of individuals ... I certainly would question their qualifications/character to be police officers.

My already low regard for police has just gotten lower.

Got into the WH. POTUS is not safe and neither is his family IMO.
DeBlasio is married to a bla person so he deserves the lack of respect in their eyes. These so called cops and SS either need to do the job or get the fuck out.
The challenging of civilian authority is the most frightening thing to me.

these folks have come to regard themselves as something unique and detached from the civil service they have actually been hired to perform. We need to fix that. Unfortunately, that will be a major shift that won't be well received by those who need to be addressed and they have guns and tanks now.

it may come to that. Should such a series of events take place, it will be required throughout the country and will be nasty in some places. But if that's what needs to happen then so be it. The only way change is going to happen is for change to actually happen. We have proven that we will tolerate certain kinds of violence, as a country, and I suspect that there will be much of it while change is taking place, sadly. I keep thinking, every time I hear of the latest atrocity, that this will be the last straw for a people in crisis. Seems like denial of the frog in the pot would illustrate how "things" are right now for some who have the luxury of ignorance by choice.

but I thought that the Police Union wanted DeBlasio to encourage a "cooling off" period and a respite in the protests, which he did (but probably shouldn't have IMHO) but now a bunch of Police Officers turn their backs on him- at a funeral for fallen officers no less? *ugh*

They are treating DeBlasio as though he pulled the trigger. It's disgusting what is going on among the Police Unions and some of the force.

The police want people to believe that it is their professionalism which ensures that they would never intentionally abuse their powers.

But then, while in uniform, they do this.

What it says is that they think they are above reproach and should never be questioned.

Which means that they really do need to be questioned and challanged more frequently, and with greater consequences.
