2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumClinton announces major Minnesota endorsements
From October 5th,
ST. PAUL Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Rodham Clinton rolled out a list of endorsements Monday containing much of the Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party leadership, highlighting the former senator and secretary of states support among party insiders as she fends off a bid from Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders and a potential candidacy from Vice President Joe Biden. Former Maryland Gov. Martin OMalley, former Rhode Island Gov. Lincoln Chafee and former Sen. Jim Webb of Virginia are also in the race.
Clintons endorsement list includes big names that were already supporting her: Gov. Mark Dayton, Lt. Gov. Tina Flint Smith, DFL Chair Ken Martin, senators Amy Klobuchar and Al Franken and U.S. Rep. Tim Walz.
But her list of more than 60 supporters also includes House DFL leader Paul Thissen, Minneapolis Mayor Betsy Hodges, St. Paul Mayor Chris Coleman and an array of former officials, city council members and activists. Another Clinton endorser is Alan Page, newly freed to endorse after retiring from the Minnesota Supreme Court this summer.
...
No other Democratic presidential candidate has anywhere near Clintons level of support in Minnesota. Sanders most prominent supporters are state Rep. Karen Clark of Minneapolis and former Gov. Jesse Ventura, the third-party politician and commentator.

In all seriousness, Clinton's ground game has really picked up steam. I would be lying if I didn't say that I think Clinton is trying to tie up as many endorsements as possible to show Biden a run would be close to futile. Regardless, it has been a busy October for Clinton.

(32,623 posts)Let me dispel your misperception about Franken's familiarity with Sanders. They've worked together many times on things like this-

Senator Franken is extremely well informed and HRC is his choice for president.

(32,623 posts)As you say, it's typical enough that I expected it.

(23,478 posts)He's known Hillary for a long time and respects her a lot. I used to listen to his radio show all the time. I'm a Bernie supporter. But, I think many politicians who endorse Hillary or Bernie are more laid back about rallying around the winner in the general election than people are here at DU.

(20,606 posts)That's what Democrats do.
For now, he's endorsing Clinton over Sanders.
Meaning he'd rather see her as president.

(146,254 posts)camp. Our precinct caucuses are on March 1, 2016, and basically determine the make-up of the delegation to the national convention. We do have a primary, later, but delegates are elected based on the precinct caucuses. These endorsements are very important.

(1,464 posts)And we still kicked her ass in the Minnesota caucuses. Obama won by a massive margin. Hillary is a really bad fit for Minnesota. She isn't liberal enough. She's a war hawk and has issues with trust. We don't like any of those things in our politicians. If Biden, O'Malley or Sanders are competitive when Iowa rolls around, expect one of them to beat Hillary in Minnesota.
