NYT: In Debate Preview, Bernie Sanders Criticizes Hillary Clinton for Iraq Vote

NYT: In Debate Preview, Bernie Sanders Criticizes Hillary Clinton for Iraq Vote

If there was any question about how Senator Bernie Sanders would go after Hillary Rodham Clinton in the first Democratic presidential primary debate on Tuesday evening, it was answered on Saturday in the form of a press release attacking his rival’s vote authorizing the Iraq War.

Mrs. Clinton’s vote in 2002 authorizing the use of force of Iraq, which then-President George W. Bush sought, became a defining issue in her 2008 presidential primary against then-Senator Barack Obama. Mr. Obama used that vote to raise questions about Mrs. Clinton’s judgment and her character.

Mrs. Clinton never explicitly called that vote a mistake during that primary, despite pleas from some of her advisers to do just that. Instead, she moved away from it slowly, ultimately saying that had she known then what she later knew, she wouldn’t have voted that way.

She finally said she was “wrong” in her memoir, “Hard Choices,” which was released in 2014. But this debate will be the first event with her fellow candidates where she will make that point.

2. Exactly, you said what most of us say when we see a politician call such a disastrous vote

a 'mistake'. So many lives lost, the region now in turmoil with more lives lost evey day, that is no mistake, it is a massive error in judgement the cost of which we see no end to.

hitting Clinton. And I trust Hillary will try to gear the debate toward fixing problems instead of rehashing of old votes.

If you liked the Iraq war, then vote for someone who not only voted for it but also gave a 19 minute speech asking others to vote for it too.

4. It may be that she can't pass the Commander In Chief threshold.

The Iraq war speech, and the vote, is damaging to her. Although her loyalists have forgiven her for them, they are the only ones. The whole stupid "no fly zone over Syria" which she supports now is even worse. Her comment about Gaddafi's death hurts too. Then there is Snipergate which is a series of RW attack ads already pre-made. Comments about Iran. Voting consistently for a bigger military. The list goes on and on.

Yes, I will even admit to what I shouldn't. It will be harder for a woman to clear that hurdle than a man. It is wrong that things are that way, but they are.

The Democrats need to consider the possibility that she will not be electable in the General because she can't be seen by a majority of Americans as a viable Commander In Chief.

Defense. If they do, the Foxbots and MSM will be all over it. If it's one thing American voters hate, it's weakness in the ability to keep the country safe.

For certain, Hillary won't be the one dropping the ball.
