Hillary's Challenge: How to keep Obama Supporters While Joining Sanders in Opposition to Obama

Hillary's Challenge, winning over Obama supporters like me, eg, who will not forget the campaign she ran against him in 2008.

In the below linked misguided article, yet another 'out of touch' political 'pundit' appears to have forgotten what many of us who worked to get Obama elected, twice, have not and will not forget.

Found in this OP: http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1251&pid=661972

Sanders’ challenge: Winning over Obama supporters

The article is filled with all the talking points re Sanders, we have grown accustomed to in recent months.

Notably those quoted in the article are the usual bevy of 'strategists' who have little or no credibility with most ordinary people.

As one of the Obama supporters she so condescendingly SPEAKS FOR, I will explain why I am now a Sanders supporter myself.

Sanders was absolutely CORRECT when he criticized the President for putting Social Security on the Deficit Table. Across the board Democrats, and even Republicans were outraged.

No Democrat should ever have linked SS to a Deficit that was caused by the Bush Tax Cuts for the Wealthy AND the Wars they lied us into.

The opposition to this step taken by the President was so great that, people have noticed, it has been dropped from any remarks by the President after the fierce backlash it received for every advocacy group that normally supports the Dem Party.

Bernie Sanders won the support of every honest person across the board for HONESTLY stating what they were themselves saying, Social Security had NOTHING to do with the Deficit, Obama seriously disappointed many of his supporters with that issue.

What these pundits and inside DC 'strategists' do not understand about VOTERS is that they VOTE FOR THEIR OWN INTERESTS.

Voters are NOT, for the most part, like FANS of ROCK STARS as these 'pundits' so condescendingly imply.

They are PEOPLE who care first and foremost about their FAMILIES and friends and when they support a candidate it is because that person appears to be representing their interests.

Check this totally contradictory statement from the article:

Clinton's stated opposition this week to the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade deal — which she helped negotiate as Obama’s secretary of state — was her latest break, soon after she announced her disapproval of the construction of the Keystone XL pipeline and the so-called Cadillac tax portion of the Affordable Care Act.

Sanders has long held each of these positions — which could each become even more politically charged in the coming days as Vice President Joe Biden makes a decision about running.

But even without Biden in the race, Sanders could soon run into hot water with Obama’s core supporters, who for the first time will get a close look at the insurgent contender, said Monmouth University pollster Patrick Murray. They are unlikely to respond well to such criticism of their popular president, even if Sanders has since changed his tune and more fully embraced the party, Murray said.

Bernie of course never attacked Obama, in fact he supported him, the way Hillary has done which we Obama supporters remember all too well. This is left out of this person's calculations but NOT out of the memories of those of us supported him!

Hillary ran a horribly negative campaign against him. No need to rehash all the negative tactics her campaign used against him.

NOW as this article points out, she is opposing him on the TPP. Or so she says.

Obama is receiving again, as with SS, huge opposition from a huge majority of the people, including his supporters regarding this issue

So, the author acknowledges Clinton's 'breaks' with Obama, but thinks HER negativity towards Obama, goes unnoticed.

She points out herself, without realizing it it appears, WHY Sanders has surged so much in just a few months:

Sanders has long held each of these positions

Exactly!!! Bernie never gets PERSONAL, he focuses on the ISSUES. When he disagrees with the President, it is on the ISSUES.

But Hillary? This Obama Supporter remembers what this author thinks we forgot.

Pundits and strategists, they are a dime a dozen with very few having any clue about the real world inhabited by VOTERS. Which doesn't stop them from 'sharing' their 'opinions' with us unfortunately!
