2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumI think Hillary won the Presidency tonight
And I'm one of her biggest critics; I hated the idea of a coronation...
BUT
That was a stunning performance: calm, collected, in command-- knowledgable of the intricacies of all parts of government. She slaughtered the Republican nut cases and exposed them for who they really are. She withstood 11 HOURS of ASSAULT, and came out on top. There was no one in that room with the amount of intelligence Hillary displayed, really.
After tonight, that energy that was missing from her campaign will have finally ignited. I expect she will consolidate the party and will most likely go on to win in the primaries and the Presidency... I will still vote for Bernie out of principle (and because there's always a chance), but I can say now that I no longer worry if she's the nominee.

(27,247 posts)Hillary's performance was fine, she gave idiot Republicans a good ass-kicking, but she still has a lot of serious issues, like her vote and advocacy for the IWR, her close ties with Big Money, her support for TPP, and her hawkish, Kissinger-inspired foreign policy, among other things.

(27,247 posts)the emergence of ISIS, and the waste of hundreds of billions of dollars that could have been used to ensure that no one at home would have to live in poverty. And millions of us around the world knew from the very beginning that the IWR, which was being pushed hard by Bush and Cheney, was total bullshit.
And I don't want to have a President who laughs about starting wars and killing other countries' leaders.
And the TPP is going to be a disaster which will likely have an impact on me before the rest of you feel it.

(9,497 posts)But it is over.
We still have more than a year before we vote. And she is still wrong on major issues for me..so I don't think it is over. I am going to caucus hard for her in WA.
Hillary would look at people who give up now and laugh. She wouldn't quit, why should we?

(1,238 posts)I tell it like it is. "Comical" if you want to call it, but it's the reality.
I'm still voting Bernie, but after tonight Hillary will take off, in my opinion.
Nobody watched it though.

Video clips will be replayed until the Genersl Election.

"Issues with Clintons Views on Social Security
To begin, remember the words I asked you to mentally mark down? (To review: especially for women, our most vulnerable, the poorest recipients, they need more help and those people who need it the most.) Think about it: They all imply that Clinton wishes to introduce Social Securiyt benefits that are defined using eligibility requirements (especially, most vulnerable, poorest, need). That is, Clinton proposes to convert Social Security from a universal program of social insurance to a welfare program. This is a poisoned chalice that will destroy Social Security as we know it. Social Security should not be means-tested:
Medicare and Social Security are not handouts to the needy. They are not even intended to be a safety net. In their design, they promote the fundamental notion that dignity and good health in old age are not special privileges that can be bestowed or taken away. They are fundamental rights that every working American who has contributed productively to the economy can expect to enjoy. As James K. Galbraith told me in an email, Its insurance, not charity."

(1,415 posts)I have been critical of her too.. but i want the strongest person to face the GOP next year to win the Presidency and I am convinced.. !! Lets beat the GOP at their own game.. wow she did well.. i even had GOPers in my offcie impressed with her today and that is no small feat! wow

(14,498 posts)If she'd been facing real pros it would have likely been a different story.
Remember .... these aren't just House tea-partiers... they're *second string* tea partiers.. They're generally kept out of sight. ( And for a REASON).
If Bernie's smart he'll go after the GOP congress... the way HST went after the '48 GOP congress... only much more unstintingly.
If he's going to have a successful presidency he's going to have to reduce their #s DRAMATICALLY anyway.

(3,580 posts)I support HRC but thought Bernie had a terrific debate performance. My concern about him not being up to the level of a national debate against a GOP candidate was unfounded. Afterwards I felt if Bernie is the nominee, I could vote for him confident that Bernie will be great.
After watching the entire clown car attack on Hillary today I thought this is why I support her. She is tough, tough, tough. My goodness she is not going to cave no matter what the GOP throws at her.

STOP WATCHING CORPORATE OWNED MSM! They have one agenda and THAT is to get their Corporate Owned candidate elected so their Oligarchy is not destroyed. Hillary still represents everything that's wrong with this country. That didn't change just because she didn't crash and burn at her hearing today. Every MSM news channel is CORPORATE OWNED. They are going to sell their Corporate Owners' agenda and that will be to push Hillary as the inevitable one. You cannot believe anything you see or hear on any corporate owned network. THEY'RE ALL CORRUPT. CNN proved that just last week!
Hillary can't win the GE without a huge millennial vote and OWS supporters, MILLENNIALS, are NOT going to vote for her and Republicans, who hate her with a passion, are going to show up in droves just to vote against her. And many Progressives, myself included, are not voting for more of the same. Hillary is more of the same.

FRIEND OF WALL ST. GREEDY THIEVES who cost this country $12.8 TRILLION - our tax dollars
She voted for the IWR
She voted for the Patriot Act
She voted for the Bankruptcy Bill
She supports tax loopholes
She's still the same Hillary. She's not going to win the Primary.

(19,805 posts)coz I just wasnt connecting with Bernie. This happened in 08, I was trending toward Hillary but when Obama gave his speech in Iowa, that locked it in for me for Obama. Today, I watched 11 hours of cool, calm and collected and presidential. For a man to do what she did he would have to be sedated. My vote will be for Hillary. Im going to donate to her for the first time tonight.
