That was a white-op interrogation gone bad yesterday. It was one in which the prisoner jumped up from the chair, broke the chains and handcuffs and slapped the hell out of the interrogators.

It sounds like she was like the Jet Li character in the prison torture scene at the start of "Romeo Must Die" and the Republicans were the prison guards.

when the phone rings, he answers it and then, puzzled, holds it to her ear ("It's for you," he says). She complains into the phone, "What? I'm working here," and then, when she is told that she is needed back at headquarters right away, she sighs, accedes to the command, and then, still tied to the chair with a gazillion ropes, beats up the bad guy (and several guards, if I remember correctly), unties herself, and heads out to report to HQ.

That's who Hillary reminded me of yesterday.

Unfortunately, Ian Fleming was a spy writing about spies, not a bartender. So the shaken, not stirred was a mere literary device, not a barkeep instruction manual.

The rule is simple. If it is all booze, stir. If it has juice, or something non-alcoholic, one may shake. No exceptions.

By the way, the secret to a great martini is to serve it extremely cold. And for Christ sakes, put some Vermouth in it. Otherwise you might as well just drink the gin out of the fucking bottle. I use 2 parts gin to one part vermouth. Don't forget to add a dash of Angurastura bitters. Garnish with two big olives. It is easy if one keeps the gin in the freezer and the Vermouth in the fridge. That way one doesn't have to mess with all the ice. One just has to stir. Never, ever shake a martini.

You should always keep vermouth in the fridge, sweet or dry. The gin gets cold with ice: ice (before straining) is an important ingredient of a martini as well, as the water it adds opens the gin. I do 2:1 also. But with a lemon twist. I wouldn't put Angostura in a martini, but a drop or two of orange bitters makes sense.

Stirred, obviously.

She took their abuse like the professional she is. Their junior high attempts at intimidation backfired big time. These are your representatives, America. You should be ashamed. You voted them in! And a thanks to those Democrats on the committee who called it like it was and stood up to their colleagues.
