Why Were The Benghazi Republicans Obsessed With Sidney Blumenthal?

I read this whole article but still do not understand how Sidney Blumenthal has any real connection to Benghazi except as a loud mouth friend to Hillary Clinton voicing some sort of personal opinion. What does that have to do with anything?

Except, if the badgering of Sidney Blumenthal by the GOP, is more about a witch hunt for information to kill off Hillary Clinton politically. As far as Benghazi is concerned the GOP has made no connection except he emailed her during this period. But he emailed her before Benghazi and most likely still emails her today. Friends have a habit of emailing their friends on numerous occasions.

All they found was a big nothing burger.

It's funny they are still harping on that this morning. Why did Sid Blumenthal have her personal email address and Chris Stevens didnt. Of course that was answered several times.. Ambassadors don't contact the SOS via their personal email addresses.... DUH.

Maybe I'm wrong but I thought her personal email account was also used for official business.

They use cables.... and they normally dont directly contact the SOS.. they go through staff.

over to the State Department and give them a demonstration of how their communication system works. iows - they can't get it with just hand puppets and a dry erase board

Was that in an email Blu addressed the President as Obama and not President Obama. You know, considering how much respect he has for the Presidency and all.

It looks like they want to make the point that Blumenthal had more access to Clinton than Stevens did. In fact, ambassadors don't contact the SOS via personal email. Nor do they contact the SOS directly about security matters. They contact the state Dept security team. The GOP committee members are just exposing their ignorance for the world to see.

... back on to Hillary.

They were also very upset because they found a single email between to low level state department employees who questioned some aspect of the official position on Libya.

They were throwing things on the wall to see if anything would stick.

That is what Cummings eluded to when he wanted Blumenthal's transcript brought to light. Although Gowdy insisted in the media that he was only interested in Benghazi, he apparently was focusing his questions only on Blumenthal's relationship to the Clinton Foundation.
