Are you a democratic socialist like Bernie Sanders? Take the quiz.

Are you a democratic socialist like Bernie Sanders? Take the quiz.

1. The government should guarantee Americans a basic level of government support so they can feed and house their families, and live a basic life, without excess financial anxiety.

I strongly agree.
I somewhat agree.
I don't have an opinion.

I strongly disagree.

Take the test! I got:

You got Democratic socialist

You might be a democratic socialist! Like Bernie Sanders, you support government programs that guarantee a wide range of basic services to the public at taxpayer expense. You think that the government has to intervene in the economy to keep things fair, and you aren't too concerned about excessive red tape.

Guess that means I'm a godless commie out to destroy 'Merica.

I was taking that and thinking "this isn't a test for Democratic Socialists...it's a test for real Democrats." That should be the Democratic litmus test. If you can't get at-least 7/10 on that...please kindly get the fuck out of my party, closeted Republicans.

I luv ya for that. You're a real teller of the Unvarnished Truth.

I tend to be more "pragmatic" in a faith that the system can be self-correcting withij the current model. But I increasingly think what is termed "pragmatism" is actually a form of Magical Thinking.

once it starts to be taken seriously and changes one's world view.

I think I am pragmatic but my pragmatism is a drive toward what must be done in a physics trumps politics, not trading cold comfort for morally required change, and the stewardship of being the ones holding the strings and obligated to pass on a better world kinda ways is all.

I appreciate the compliment though but it is just accepting that humans are a young species with no evidence to support we have much capacity for constructing self correcting systems at all but rather in reality what we build tends toward entropy and requires vigilant effort to maintain and improve to prevent collapse.
The thought of self correcting systems is probably a mass delusion because in no other area does such work. Marriages and relationships of that kin take work. Friendships take effort. Businesses require constant management.

Pretty much nothing worthwhile "takes care of it's self" in our personal lives and so it goes with our economic, political, and community structures and institutions too.

We hold the strings because we are the only people alive. We are the stewards of all that has been and all that will ever come in our fleeting moments it is not our place morally or logically to kick the ever growing can down the road or to tell ourselves it will all work out in the end if we are not doing what it takes to make it work and instead relying for all intents and purposes on another variation of the "invisible hand" fallacy to carry the day.

people "waking the fuck up and start using common sense and decency" kind of way.

Problem is -- on a universal scale -- we're all infants and adolescents. Just as we start to gain some maturity and wisdom, it's time to move on to the Great Comic Whatever. And a new crop of infants comes along and has to learn the same damn lessons all over again.

I'm old enough now that I can already see that we as a country are not likely to learn any lesson in this coming election. I posted something about the 1976 campaign of Fred Harris. The things he proposed and warned about are still timely. And still dismissed in favor of the glossy same-old status-quo in a shiny package.
